Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Whitney Rose has filed for divorce from Justin Rose, her husband of 17 years. The pair separated over the summer, but it seems that those close to them believed they would work it out. Her castmate, Heather Gay, learned about this live on the air during an interview. She said that she didn’t quite believe they would actually end the marriage.

The ‘RHOSLC’ star filed for divorce from Justin Rose

On October 7, Whitney filed for divorce in the Third District Court, Salt Lake Department. Page Six reported that she also submitted a proposed parenting plan.

The pair were reportedly “living separate lives” by this July.

“They are never together, even when they’re in the same place, like the gym,” one source said.

The couple, who share two children, were reportedly “frustrated” with their situation and decided to keep “existing” as a couple “for the sake of the kids.”

On a recent episode of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Whitney admitted that “disagreeing and arguing about the business snowballed into arguing about everything,” and that she wanted “space away from Justin.”

Heather Gay said Whitney Rose’s filing shocked her

While speaking with Kiki Monique on SiriusXM’s Reality Checked, Monique informed Gay that Rose filed for divorce.

“Whitney filed for divorce from Justin,” she said. “It just broke, and obviously we’ve known. It seems like you’re just hearing this.”

“Yeah, I’m a little shocked,” Gay admitted. “Well, she’s in New York right now, I think, too. Yeah, I’m actually…”

Gay said she believed that the couple would make things work.

“I thought that they, yeah, I am shocked,” she said, adding, “I thought that they were just separating and working on it.”

Heather Gay said she knew this would be hard on Whitney Rose

Gay, who went through a divorce years ago, said that she feels terribly that the couple is dealing with this.

“It’s just kind of like, you know, I love Justin,” she said. “I love their family. I know how hard divorce is. This sucks.”

Gay also said that navigating a divorce on reality television cannot possibly be easy.

“I can’t imagine doing it on this platform, like, publicly,” she said, adding, “I can’t imagine Page Six posting about it and me having to deal with that with every person I see at the grocery store, and with my kids, and like, you know… I divorced so secretly, like secretly and slowly, like molasses slow. And I did that to protect how difficult it was, and I can’t imagine ripping the Band-Aid off like that. It would be really, really hard, really difficult.”

Rose has admitted that her separation will play out in its entirety on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
