Jay-Z Overtakes Miley Cyrus for Most Likely Super Bowl Halftime Performer
On Sunday, Feb. 14, 2027, a performer will take the stage at the Super Bowl halftime show. At this point, it isn’t clear who will headline the halftime show. Experts have frequently changed their predictions for who will take the stage. While Miley Cyrus recently seemed like the most likely choice, experts now believe that Jay-Z will take the spot.
Jay-Z is a solid choice for the Super Bowl halftime performer
Names like Jay-Z, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish, and Harry Styles could possibly headline the upcoming halftime show. Expert Kelsey Barnes with Covers explained that while Cyrus was once the frontrunner, Jay-Z has now passed her. He has an implied probability of 51% of performing.
“It’s surprising that JAY-Z hasn’t headlined,” Barnes said. “I do think him finally headlining would be significant and mark a stage in his career that probably should’ve happened years ago due to his work.”
His company, Roc Nation, produces the show. Barnes believes that this could be a meaningful moment for him to headline.
“It would also bring a full-circle element to his relationship with the halftime show, allowing him to step out from behind the scenes and take center stage for one of the biggest performances in music,” she said.
Miley Cyrus is just behind Jay-Z as a possible Super Bowl halftime performer
Jay-Z recently passed Cyrus, who experts believe has an implied probability of 41%. She has been famous for years, and would make sense as the performer.
“Miley has been a mainstay in music for 20 years now since the release of Hannah Montana in 2006, and she’s gone from strength to strength ever since,” Barnes said. “If she was the headliner for the 2027 Super Bowl, it would feel like the right choice because of her vast and varied music. She is a bona fide household name whether you like her or not, something that I think is needed for any artist to qualify.”
Barnes believes that there has never been a better time in Cyrus’ career to headline.
“It’s also the right time in her career because she finally has two GRAMMY awards and has the discography and star power to headline,” she said.
She noted that Harry Styles could also be in the running
Harry Styles is also a possible candidate. Barnes noted that Styles “checks all three of the same boxes that Jay-Z does.”
“He has a strong discography of recognizable hits, fun stage presence from both his solo career and his time with One Direction, and the ability to create the kind of larger-than-life performance that the Super Bowl requires.”
She said that Style has the added benefit of a possible One Direction reunion if he performs.
“He also has a broad appeal across different generations — everyone from your little sister to your old rock-loving father thinks he’s great — which could make him a particularly interesting choice for a halftime show. If he could get a mini reunion of the One Direction members that are still with us, he would go down in history!”
