Jenny Slatten’s ALS Diagnosis Reframes Trust Crisis With Sumit Singh in ’90 Day: The Last Resort’ S3
Jenny Slatten’s devastating health crisis is putting her and Sumit Singh’s time on 90 Day: The Last Resort in a new light.
In May, Jenny, 68, announced that she had been diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, a progressive and fatal neurological disease.
“With a heavy heart we wanted to share a news with all of you guys,” Jenny shared on Instagram on May 19. “That, there was a rumor that I had a stroke, but it turned out to be ALS.”
“At first, we tried to keep it private because it’s been very emotional and overwhelming for us,” the TLC star continued. “We were hoping to find some kind of solution before speaking publicly. But after trying for some time, we feel like it’s time to reach out.Thank you so much for all the love and support. Right now, we are open to any kind of help — treatments, clinical trials, lifestyle changes, or anything that could help treat this disease or slow down its progression.”
Jenny and Sumit star in ‘90 Day: The Last Resort’ Season 3
Jenny’s announcement came shortly before she and her husband, Sumit, 38, made their debut in season 3 of 90 Day: The Last Resort. The fan-favorite pair join other 90 Day alums, including Russ and Paola Mayfield and Shekinah Garner and Sarper Guven, at the unique retreat, which is designed to help couples address the serious ongoing issues in their relationships.
For Jenny and Sumit, those issues included financial stress, an unstable living situation, and ongoing conflict with Sumit’s family, who don’t approve of his relationship with Jenny. There are also underlying trust issues – when the pair met online, Sumit was pretending to be a man named Michael Jones.
The couple’s marriage is a “roller coaster,” Sumit admitted in the season 3 premiere, while Jenny said she was growing concerned about her husband’s drinking following the failure of their cafe business. And in The Last Resort’s second episode, Sumit admitted that he still isn’t always honest with his wife, confessing to investing $50,000 without her knowledge.
Sumit and Jenny are fighting her ALS diagnosis together
Sumit and Jenny had some big challenges in their relationship. But her ALS diagnosis has put everything in perspective, they say.
“Honestly, I never felt this much love, or I can love anyone this much,” Sumit told People. “I used to … live for myself. But from [the] last so many years, I feel like doing [things] for someone who you love gives you happiness, I think that’s what love is. And that’s why we do things for each other, and that’s what make each other happy.”
Jenny has said that Sumit is still her biggest cheerleader.
“Thank you all for supporting me,” she wrote in a May 30 Instagram post. “But he is the best companion I ever ask for . Don’t criticise him. He is the best.”
90 Day: The Last Resort Season 3 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on TLC. Episodes also stream on HBO Max.
