Did Joe Alwyn Actually Reach Out to Taylor Swift? Conflicting Reports Cast Doubt on the Closure Story

Several months after Taylor Swift’s wedding, reports that Joe Alwyn reached out to her for closure surfaced. The former couple, who dated for more than six years, reportedly connected before she tied the knot with Travis Kelce. Still, other sources claimed that there was no truth to these rumors.

Alwyn and Swift dated between 2016 and 2023. That same year, she began a relationship with Kelce. A source claimed that Alwyn sought to “find some closure” and “clear the air” before Swift got married.

“Joe wants to resolve some lingering issues and finally shut the door on the past,” a source told Radar Online. “He just wants to get a better understanding of why it didn’t work out between them.”

The source said that Swift did not want to see her ex before her wedding day.

“She expressed her feelings in her album and got a lot out of her system, and she just thinks it’s better to keep distance from exes,” the source explained. “Taylor’s happy with Travis, and a lot of her friends think it would be too painful to see Joe again. She wishes him well, but she doesn’t want to see him.”

Other sources say that Joe Alwyn was not interested in seeking closure with Taylor Swift

A different source directly contradicted this rumor. While Alwyn “genuinely hopes” for the best for his ex, he wouldn’t be reaching out to her.

“Taylor’s engagement is the final nail in the coffin to any thoughts Joe will ever have about her again,” a source told the Daily Mail.

Alwyn reportedly felt that Swift wouldn’t want to hear from him, either for closure or well wishes.

“Sure, he genuinely hopes she is in a good place and doing well, but he doesn’t think about her anymore on any consistent basis and hasn’t reached out, nor will he, to offer congratulations,” they said. “He feels that it is not needed, and he feels she wouldn’t want to hear from him anyway.”

Alwyn and Swift’s relationship was private, despite her level of fame. When asked by The Guardian in 2025 if he “must just want to move on” from the relationship, he said he’d long moved past it.

“That’s something for other people to do,” he said. “We’re talking about something that’s a while ago now in my life. So that’s for other people. That’s what I feel.”

He has recently sparked dating rumors with comedian Mary Beth Barone.
