Kim Kardashian Admits She Prayed to Get Kicked Off ‘Dancing with the Stars’
Kim Kardashian has had years to grow into her celebrity status, but back in 2008, when she appeared on Dancing with the Stars, the attention her family was receiving was still relatively new. Kardashian, who seems to love the spotlight these days, was so overwhelmed by the process that she actually prayed to get kicked off. She has talked about the experience several times over the years, but she’s only now opening up about how difficult her time on the show really was.
Kim Kardashian prayed to get kicked off of ‘Dancing with the Stars’
When Kim Kardashian was eliminated from Dancing with the Stars, she sobbed off camera. Those reports led most fans to assume she was upset about being booted from the show, and that narrative has stuck for years. Apparently, that’s not how she really felt. During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Kardashian admitted she cried in her trailer every night and prayed to get kicked off the show.

Her wish came true just three weeks into the season. She was partnered with pro Mark Ballas, who had won the previous season with Kristi Yamaguchi, so Kardashian should have been a strong contender. The partnership never translated into top scores, though. The pair averaged 18 out of 30 across their three weeks together, and Kardashian was sent home while 82-year-old Cloris Leachman stayed in the competition.
She’s spoken about the experience before
This isn’t the first time Kim has poked fun at her time on the show. In 2010, she told Ellen DeGeneres she was traumatized and would never dance again. She didn’t go into much detail about that “trauma,” and fans largely assumed she was joking. It turns out there was more truth to it than people realized.
She revisited the competition during an appearance on Khloé Kardashian’s podcast, recalling some of the tactics she used to try to win votes. She reminded her sister that they made “Vote for Kim” T-shirts and went looking for the paparazzi while wearing them. Both sisters agreed the move was desperate.
She isn’t the only Kardashian who competed on the show
Kim may have had a rough time in the ballroom, but she isn’t the only Kardashian with a Dancing with the Stars story, and one of her siblings did much better. Her younger brother, Rob Kardashian, who has since become famously private, thrived in the competition. He joined Season 13 in 2011 with pro Cheryl Burke and surprised viewers by making it to the finale, where he finished second behind J.R. Martinez. The run earned Rob a new wave of fans, and years later Burke still spoke fondly of it when she talked with Kris Jenner about his experience.
While Kim was a bit of a disaster on the series, Rob’s success had the production team taking a closer look at the family. In 2012, a source said producers were interested in casting Kendall or Kylie Jenner, and called it a completely open door for Khloé, Kourtney, and the rest of the family. Caitlyn Jenner was also reportedly in talks to join the competition after her split from Kris Jenner. None of those castings have happened yet, but anything is possible.
