Kim Kardashian Demands Attention With Dead Celebrity’s Massive Diamonds Around Her Neck
Kim Kardashian has just wowed fans again with another stunning look involving items that once belonged to a late movie icon.
Days after Kris Jenner donned a black velvet scorpion cape once owned by Elizabeth Taylor to the All Fair‘s Season 2 premiere, her daughter rocked some of the most glamorous jewels you’ll ever see that were also previously owned by Taylor.
Kardashian took to Instagram to share with fans her experience when her stylist Law Roach arranged a private birthday appointment at Bvlgari for her in Rome. Bvlgari said that bringing Taylor’s jewelry out of the vault is “not something they regularly do,” leading Kardashian to opine that Roach must have really “pulled some strings.”
The huge emerald-diamond necklace was originally gifted to late Hollywood icon by her fifth and sixth husband, Richard Burton. According to Brett Afshar, jeweler and founder of Queensmith, it has 16 emeralds, each set in platinum and framed by circular-cut diamonds, all joined by diamond quatrefoils. At its center is a detachable pendant holding a 23.46 carat emerald.
Afshar told Showbiz Cheat Sheet that “These pieces sold for staggering sums at Christie’s in 2011. $6.58 million for the pendant, $6.13 million for the necklace, $3.2 million for the earrings, and $3.33 million for the ring.
“People are often surprised to learn that a fine emerald can be rarer than a diamond. Nearly every emerald has natural inclusions. Finding a large stone with deep, even green color and good clarity is incredibly difficult, so a 23-carat emerald of this quality is almost unheard of. With emeralds, color is everything, and the finest stones demand extraordinary prices.”
Afshar added, “Kim has never hidden her admiration for Elizabeth Taylor. She even recalled being taken into Taylor’s home after she passed away to look at her jewelry collection.”
Afshar also commented on Taylor’s old cloak that Jenner wore to the All Fair‘s premiere. The dramatic cape actually inspired showrunner Ryan Murphy to write an entire episode around Kim’s character throwing her own Scorpio Ball, noting, “In the Season 2 trailer for All’s Fair, Kim is spotted wearing the Tiziani piece Taylor wore to Princess Grace’s 40th birthday in Monaco in 1969, a party themed around the Scorpio star sign.
“It last sold publicly at Christie’s in 2011 for $74,500. Kim paired it with more than $2.7 million of Leviev diamonds, a nod to the 69.42-carat Taylor-Burton Diamond that Richard Burton gave Taylor that same year.”
