Harry’s relationship with his father and elder brother has been virtually nonexistent since the Duke of Sussex and his wife, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, decided to walk away from royal life in early 2020.

But recently, reports have surfaced that King Charles is quietly considering making an overture to Harry and Meghan by inviting the couple to meet with him at Balmoral Castle.

“This is Charles’ most personal residence,” a palace insider told royal expert Rob Shuter earlier this year. “Offering Harry and Meghan time at Balmoral is an enormous gesture. It signals trust, forgiveness, and a genuine desire to heal.”

However, one person in the family might not be in as forgiving a mood.  Prince William allegedly thinks it’s better for Harry and Meghan to keep their distance.

“William is strongly opposed,” a source sad. “He believes it’s too much, too soon — and fears it could reopen wounds that have barely begun to heal.”

King Charles is ‘uneasy’ about some of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s activities

The King and his second son last met in person in September 2025, while Harry visited the U.K. Meghan did not join her husband on the trip, nor did the couple’s two children. But the aging monarch is apparently eager to get to know Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.

While Charles might be keen to repair his relationship with Harry, that doesn’t meet he approve of everything he does. The King is also “very uneasy” about Harry and Meghan’s recently moves – such as their tour of Australia – which appear to intentionally blur the line between official and unofficial royal activities, a source told Woman and Home

“Harry and Meghan are now acting outside the rules set down for them by Queen Elizabeth when they first chose to give up royal duties,” a Buckingham Palace insider said. “They are not accountable, it seems, to anyone. They just simply do what they want, when they want to do it.”

Meanwhile, William is waiting in the wings. Once he does finally take the throne, Harry fears that he might strip Princess Lilibet and Prince Archie’s of their titles, Tom Bower wrote in his recent book, Betrayal (via Hello!).

But for now, Charles remains in charge. “He wants peace, not just with Harry but Meghan too, and he’s quietly applying pressure from the top to make that happen,” a source told the National Examiner in late 2025.

“This is not going down well with William or [Queen] Camilla, they’re flabbergasted and saying he’s being way too naïve,” the source added. “They feel strongly that it’s asking for trouble to open the door to her.”
