Kylie Jenner’s Latest Ad Campaign Slammed as ‘Tacky’ and Dangerous
Kylie Jenner teamed up with Meta AI Glasses to launch a frame inspired by her everyday style. The glasses will also reportedly use her voice. Many people have expressed concern about Meta Glasses infringing on privacy. As a result, Jenner has received backlash for teaming up with the product.
Kylie Jenner is doing an ad campaign for Meta Glasses
Jenner teamed up with Meta to put out a pair of oval sunglasses. The company noted that they designed the glasses to reflect Jenner’s style. The glasses feature cameras, speakers, and microphones.
Smart glasses have faced significant criticism because of their ability to record people without their knowledge or consent.
“There are some pretty dark places we could go here,” David Kessler, an attorney who heads the US privacy practice at Norton Rose Fulbright, told the BBC. “I’m not anti-technology in any sense, but as a societal matter…will I need to think [of being recorded] anytime I go out in public?”
Meta also reportedly plans to add facial recognition technology. This will enable users to both film and instantly identify people. While the company tells people not to record others without their consent, they have stated that the onus is on individual users not to misuse the technology.
People have criticized Kylie Jenner for promoting Meta Glasses
Because of the concerns surrounding smart glasses, Jenner’s ad campaign has received significant backlash.
“Kylie Jenner taking brand deals out of pure greed and disregard for society?? NO,” wrote one Reddit user.
“It’s tacky even by Kardashian standards,” added someone else. “I feel like anyone who would be swayed by a Kardashian endorsement in 2026 is already on board with this AI/surveillance bulls*** to begin with.”
People noted that they are even more critical of Jenner’s glasses than a standard pair.
“I don’t want to be around someone wearing these glasses,” one person wrote. “I’ll think even less of them if they have their AI voice set to Kylie Jenner’s. Like… what?? That’s a selling point???”
Many couldn’t understand why Jenner was partnering with a controversial product when she is already wealthy.
“She’s a billionaire already why would she do this?” one person asked. “Like why do people so rich continue to do controversial stuff when they can continue to make success with their business I don’t get it.”
Her boyfriend recently faced backlash for an ad campaign
Jenner’s boyfriend, Timothée Chalamet, also recently received backlash for an ad campaign. He partnered with Kalshi, an exchange and prediction market.
Research by Casino.org found that nearly 60% of Americans had a negative view of the ads. In addition, negative public opinion about Chalamet increased by 180% after the campaign launched.
