In Love After Lockup: Relationship Rehab, five pairs from We TV’s popular reality franchise will join psychiatrist and nationally recognized relationship expert Dr. Ish Major to work on repairing their broken bonds. The nine-episode series premieres this October, exclusively on We TV and All Reality.
Which couples have signed on for this new Love After Lockup experiment? Fans will check in with Justine and Michael, Kimberly and Joey, and three other pairs to confront the emotional and practical challenges that have strained their relationships as they work to build their post-prison lives.
Brittany and Marcelino
Current Relationship Status: Separated
Love After Lockup and Life After Lockup alums Marcelino and Brittany married and had two children after she was released from prison. But their relationship has been tested by a lack of trust and infidelity. Now, Brittany and Marcelino are separated and sharing custody of their kids. However, they’re still legally married, with each accusing the other of dragging their feet on the finalizing the divorce. Now, they want to build a healthier co-parenting dynamic – one that’s no longer driven by old wounds and unresolved resentment. As they unpack their past, they’re forced to face a tougher question: beneath the hurt, the history, and the distance, is their any chance of salvaging their romance?
Melissa and Louie
Current Relationship Status: Engaged
Melissa has had a crush on Louie since high school, eventually reconnecting with him years later while he was incarcerated. Now, they’re engaged and planning a wedding. She thinks that tying the knot will fix the issues they’ve been sweeping under the rug. But he’s getting cold feet. Now, she’s exhausted and he feels frustrated that she doesn’t grasp how hard it is for a formerly incarcerated person to succeed after leaving prison. Will they be able to work through their issues before their big day or will their unresolved issues force them to call off the wedding?
Alexis and Julius
Current Relationship Status: Dating
Shortly after appearing on Love After Lockup, Alexis and Julius welcomed their daughter, Julianna. Unfortunately, becoming parents did not resolve the underlying problems in their relationship: Julius is still sneaky and Alexis still doesn’t trust him. The on-again, off-again chaos has worn them both down. She wants to get married and see Julius commit to their family, while he wants respect and trust. Will working with Dr. Ish finally give them the tools to choose each other, or will it prove they’re better off choosing themselves?
Justine and Michael
Current Relationship Status: Married
Justine and Michael have built a life together in Las Vegas following his release from prison. But a big blended family, starkly different parenting styles, and unresolved trauma are making it hard for them to move forward. Justine says than whenever things get tough, Michael reverts to “incarceration mode.” In response, she’ll do whatever it takes so they can move on. Now, she wants them to go to therapy so they can develop healthier communication skills and avoid repeating past mistakes. But Michael is resistant to the idea, since so many clients from his drug-dealing days were therapists. They love each other, but the power struggles and emotional walls are tearing them apart. Will Relationship Rehab given them the tools they need to save their marriage?
Kimberly and Joey
Current Relationship Status: Married
After meeting when they were young, Kimberly carried a torch for Joey for years. They reconnected during his incarceration, after she separated from her children’s father. Once Joey was released, he and Kimberly wasted no time tying the knot. But married life hasn’t been easy. Joey’s a recovering addict, and his sobriety is a constant concern. Kimberly keep a close eye one him and even administers random drug tests to make sure he’s clean. Between trust issues, financial stress, and Joey’s re-arrest, the problems are piling up for this couple, who are about to face their biggest challenge yet.
