Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have touched down in Australia for their four-day trip. What’s so different from this trip than their last one in 2018 is that the pair are no longer working members of the royal family but are actually private citizens visiting the country.

With the media coverage (the couple brought a photographer and reporter with them to capture every camera-ready moment) and tight security everywhere they go, it certainly doesn’t seem like that, which is why several outlets Down Under, including Melbourne’s Herald Sun newspaper, described the visit as a “faux royal tour to shore up Brand Sussex.”

The prince and Suits alum, however, have rejected criticisms that their trip is a publicity tour.

“The program is rooted in long-standing areas of work for the duke and the duchess, with a clear focus on amplifying organizations delivering measurable impact. The visit prioritizes listening, learning, and supporting communities rather than promotion,” the Sussexes’ office said in a statement, before adding that there are also “a small number of private engagements” being held to “support broader commercial, charitable and commercial objectives.”

Following their arrival on Day One, most of the attention was on Harry as a reporter asked him a couple of questions and ignored Meghn. Now, an expert is explaining how that didn’t sit well with the duchess, who likes to be front and center and the main star of the show. Here’s more on Meghan’s reaction.

Darren Stanton is a body language and behavioral expert with a degree in psychology. He previously worked as a police officer and used his expertise to uncover the truth when interviewing hundreds of suspects. He later moved into media and TV as a consultant and has been dubbed the “Human Lie Detector.” Stanton offers his commentary and expert analysis on high-profile public figures and criminal cases. His work helps audiences better understand what people really mean beyond their words.

Speaking on behalf of OLBG, Stanton told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “Harry is letting Meghan take the lead. It’s clear she is the more dominant person in the relationship and always has been. By taking the submissive position he is letting her take the lead, and it’s consistent behavior between the two. She likes to be in the limelight a lot, and he doesn’t want to be front and center as much. Harry is the main star, but he is letting her take control.”

The expert added that “Meghan is not very happy with the reporter just speaking to Harry; she is showing a very fake smile. It’s almost like someone has said, ‘say cheese’ and she has been forced to smile. You can see her face is transfixed, and only the bottom half moves. Her eyes aren’t engaged, which shows us it’s a fake smile. She loves to be the center of attention, so I think because the attention is on him, she is not happy.”

Showbiz Cheat Sheet acknowledges that conditions and cultures can impact body language and is sensitive to all backgrounds.
