Britney Spears’ Chilling Claims About the Father Who Controlled Her Life for 13 Years
Britney Spears’ 13-year conservatorship was one of the most difficult periods of her life. She later challenged the conservatorship in court, including seeking her father’s removal as conservator. The pop star has frequently spoken about how the conservatorship affected her life and has publicly criticized her father, including in a recent post referencing his amputated leg.
Spears recently appeared to reference her father Jamie Spears’ leg amputation in a since-deleted Instagram post. She reflected on her years under the conservatorship in the post, writing, “For 15 years I was never allowed to say my name in the land of the free and travel spontaneously.” “I wonder why God took my father’s legs away?” the Toxic singer further penned.
According to Star Magazine, Jamie had his right leg amputated a few years ago after suffering a bacterial infection. A source revealed that Spears’ relatives are appalled by her comments on her own father. “This is being seen as needlessly cruel by her poor family, not to mention Jamie, who is in very poor health as it is,” the insider said.
They further pointed out that Jamie has given up on “Britney ever forgiving him.” Moreover, he has accepted that his relationship with his daughter is over. “But it’s still very hard to have her lash out at him like this publicly with so much rage,” the insider added. The pop star’s siblings are “appalled that she’s taking shots at Jamie when he’s sick.”
In her defense, Spears believes that she has “every right to call him out after the hell he put her through.” Moreover, this was not the first time she publicly spoke about her father’s wrongdoings.
According to TheBlast, Spears wrote about her conservatorship in her 2023 memoir The Woman in Me. She described herself as a “shadow” of the woman she once was. She wrote, “Thirteen years went by with me feeling like a shadow of myself.”
The 44-year-old further mentioned that her father and his associates controlled her “body” and “money.” She shared how it made her feel sick and questioned why she was considered unable to manage her life despite having a career.
The singer also once claimed that her father said, “I’m Britney Spears now,” after becoming her conservator. She also accused her father of profiting off her career. “I began to think that he saw me as put on the earth for no other reason than to help their cash flow,” Spears noted.
Spears also claimed that Jamie continuously criticized her over her appearance. The pop star previously faced such issues with trolls and paparazzi. However, she was more hurt when the criticism came from her father. “If I thought getting criticized about my body in the press was bad, it hurt even more from my own father.”
She also told the court that her conservatorship was “a——.” Moreover, she was forced to take stronger lithium medication. The singer listed various such issues and even blamed the conservatorship for destroying her creativity.
Spears’ conservatorship began in February 2008 after she was publicly scrutinized on various occasions. Jamie managed Spears’ estate and personal affairs. He stepped down as her primary conservator in 2019 due to some health issues. Jodi Montgomery assumed the position the same year and held it until 2021. However, Jamie reportedly remained involved in making several decisions.
