Selena Gomez Reveals Nicotine Addiction Changed Her Voice, Admits Quitting Vaping Is ‘Really Hard’
Selena Gomez often finds herself in the middle of controversies, especially related to her appearance and voice. She previously faced cosmetic procedures and Ozempic claims due to her changing weight. Many also pointed out that the singer does not sound as she used to. She recently admitted that her voice had changed but left her fans agitated by revealing it was due to her nicotine addiction.
According to People, Gomez recently opened up about her voice change that many fans have pointed out in the past few years. The singer addressed the claims, admitting that her voice is no longer the same in an Instagram story. She shared, “I’m not gonna be able to change my voice.”
The 34-year-old then revealed that her changed voice was the result of nicotine consumption. “I vaped nicotine a lot,” she shared. The singer admitted that she also had a hard time quitting and also warned those who were trying to vape. “Nicotine is so hard to quit, and I think I just wanted to say, if you’re going through it or if you’re even trying to vape, it’s just not worth it,” Gomez asserted.
She continued, “It’s so stupid. It changed my voice,” before laughing a bit. “So if you guys don’t like listening to my voice, that’s totally understandable. I don’t mind. Just don’t listen to it,” she then declared.
The Calm Down singer then revealed that she had quit vaping, but it has been “really hard” for her. She hoped that she could continue staying away from vaping. “If you are going through something, you can get through it too,” Gomez shared.
Her admission was met with criticism as fans were not pleased to know about her vaping habit. Many pointed to her kidney transplant and struggles with lupus, calling out that she did not lead a healthy lifestyle. An Instagram user wrote, “I never understand people that have had the gift of an organ transplant yet still then go on to live unhealthy lifestyles.”
Another questioned her, “Girl, you are a kidney transplant patient !!! Are you purposely trying to hurt your kidney?” They further reminded the singer, “Kidneys don’t come easy as you know!” “She said it was her meds like a year ago,” a third critic declared. Many also pointed out that Gomez did not look like herself in the clip.
The Only Murders in the Building star’s confession came after speculations that her voice had changed. Gomez addressed a similar question last year, when she said on an Instagram Live, “Sometimes things happen.” She continued to state, “I get weird. My throat kind of swells inside sometimes. That’s all.”
Gomez’s revelation did not surprise many, as a clip of her holding a vape previously went viral. According to the Mirror, the Wizards of Waverly Place star went out with Taylor Swift and some other friends that day. A fan account posted a video of the singer getting her hair and makeup done.
While she was in the chair, she had a black vape-like object in her hand. Fans were taken aback by the clip, as many of them recalled her 2017 kidney transplant.
