‘My Big Fat Fabulous Life’ Star Whitney Way Thore Reveals Why She Started Taking Weight-Loss Drugs
Body positivity activist and reality TV star Whitney Way Thore has started taking weight-loss drugs, she’s revealed.
“I am taking ‘a weight-loss medication,’” Whitney shares in the teaser for the upcoming season of My Big Fat Fabulous Life. “My doctor said it would be helpful for me in terms of getting pregnant.”
Whitney Way Thore’s ‘main objective’ is getting pregnant
Whitney’s made no secret of her desire to become a mother, though she realizes that might be difficult because she has polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which can affect fertility. Getting pregnant is top of mind for her in this season of her TLC reality series.
“I still want a baby. That’s my main objective,” she says.
Later in the clip, Whitney and her new boyfriend Jake – who is now her fiancé – discuss her desire to have a baby, possibly via artificial insemination. He tells her he’d prefer she not go that route. The teaser ends with Whitney’s emotional reaction to taking a pregnancy test.
‘My Big Fat Fabulous Life’ star said she ‘would never criticize’ someone for taking weight loss drugs
At the end of the last season of My Big Fat Fabulous Life, Whitney and her friends discussed taking GLP-1 medications in order to address fertility issues.
“Would I consider taking a GLP-1 just to lose weight? Probably not. But would I consider a GLP-1 if it could help me get pregnant? Yeah. Yeah, I would,” she told producers. “Does that make me a traitor to the body positivity movement? I don’t know what it means. But life is too short to not pursue what I want in any way that I see fit.”
Whitney also opened up about her feelings about weight-loss medications in a 2024 interview with Showbiz Cheat Sheet.
“The way I feel about it is I’ve been a fat person for a long time now – not my whole life, but for all of my adult life. I know how hard it is, as much as anybody, and I would never criticize another fat person for doing something that made their lives easier,” she said.
“Do I think people who could lose 10 pounds need to go on Ozempic? No, I don’t,” she continued. “But am I going to look at a fat person and criticize the choice that they make so that they can do what they feel makes their life better? No, I will not, because I have seen how awful life can be. And I just think it’s kind of a really sh*tty thing to do, especially coming from fat people, to criticize what other fat people do with their bodies. That’s something that I won’t do.”
My Big Fat Fabulous Life Season 14 premieres Tuesday, November 10 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on TLC.
