NeNe Leakes Says Kim Zolciak Is ‘Not OK’ As Her 15-Year-Old Son KJ Biermann Faces Decades in Prison on Sodomy Charges

NeNe Leakes and Kim Zolciak have had their issues in the past. But after Kim’s 15-year-old son was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual battery and sodomy, NeNe reached out to see how her former Real Housewives of Atlanta costar and “associate” was holding up.
NeNe Leakes ‘recently spoke’ to Kim Zolciak
“I recently spoke to Kim,” NeNe said during an appearance on The Big Tigger Morning Show on September 11. “I just hit her up, wanted to see how she was doing.”
NeNe said she congratulated Kim on her daughter Brielle Biermann’s upcoming wedding. And she also wanted to see if “she is OK with what her son is dealing with.”
“I know that’s a tough time. And I know she’s not OK,” added NeNe, who in 2022 sued Bravo, claiming the network fostered a hostile work environment, including ignoring racist remarks from Kim.
On September 3, Kim’s son KJ was indicted on multiple counts in Georgia, including aggravated child molestation, aggravated sexual battery, aggravated sodomy and false imprisonment, as well as three counts of aggravated sexual battery against a child under 16. The charges stem from an alleged incident between him and a female classmate in a changing room at a Life Time Fitness location in Alpharetta in April 2026.
‘RHOA’ alum’s son released on bond, must wear ankle monitor and stay off social media
KJ was initially held in juvenile detention, but on Friday, he was released on a $200,000 bond, USA Today reported. The terms of his release are strict. He must wear an ankle monitor, stay inside his mother’s home, and only attend school virtually. Social media and his cell phone are off limits, and he is not to have any contact with the victim, her family, or her associates. He is also not allowed to have any contact with anyone under the age of 16.
During Friday’s hearing, more disturbing details about KJ’s past emerged. Deputy District Attorney Caitlin McGillicuddy told the court that the teen has been under supervision since October 2025 in a different sexual battery case. She alleged that investigators discovered videos on his phone showing “multiple” sexual encounters between him and a family member under the age of 12 and that KJ used “predatory, derogatory” language in the recordings.
“This would now mark the second time he has been charged with an offense of a sexual nature of a very serious kind which involves female victims,” McGillicuddy told the judge of the case involving his classmate.
KJ Biermann’s lawyer wants case moved to juvenile court
KJ is Kim’s eldest son with her estranged husband, ex-NFL player Kroy Biermann. The former couple had four children together; Kroy also adopted Kim’s two older daughters from a previous relationship.
KJ’s lawyer, Jason Sheffield, says his client is innocent of all charges and intends to plead not guilty. He also said that while he had not seen the videos involving the family member, he believed that the DA had misrepresented the content.
Sheffield has requested that KJ’s case be moved to juvenile court. If tried as an adult, he faces up to 25 years in prison.
