Vicki Gunvalson is happily in love. But one of her fellow cast members thinks her boyfriend is waving a major red flag.

In the season premiere of The Real Housewives of Orange County Season 20, the OG Housewife revealed that her long-time boyfriend Michael Smith had bought her an engagement ring. But it wasn’t on her finger. Instead, he’s holding on to it.

“He says it’s in the safe and he’s not going to give it to me until I shape up,” Vicki revealed.

Vicki and Michael have been together for four years. Last year, they even bought a house together in La Quinta, California, not far from Palm Springs. But saying “I do” is apparently too much of a commitment for the pair.

Vicki has described her businessman beau as a supportive guy who fills “my emotional love tank” and can handle her big personality.

“I’m a lot to accept,” she admitted to Bravo Insider earlier this year.

Vicki appears unbothered by the fact that Michael hasn’t yet popped the question. But her co-star Heather Dubrow thinks Michael’s behavior is “interesting.”

At first I thought it was silly,” she said during a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live. “But then I started thinking about it.”

Heather felt that by telling Vicki he’d bought the ring but continuing to hold on to it, Michael was making a power play.

“So if you have the ring, cool. But if you have the ring and you’re not giving it to me, you’re sending a signal,” she said. “[It’s] a little a red flag.”

The RHOC star added that she and her husband, Dr. Terry Dubrow, had discussed the situation with Vicki and agreed that “it was bad.” (To be fair, Heather has been in a spat with Vicki over the latter’s comments that Heather and Terry inherited their money, so she’s not likely to be particularly sympathetic to Vicki right now.)

Heather might be raising her eyebrows at Michael’s behavior. But Vicki – who is twice divorced and broke up with ex-boyfriend Brooks Ayers after it was revealed he’d faked a cancer diagnosis – doesn’t need to formalize thing with her man.

“We are in a committed relationship,” Vicki told E! News at the season 20 premiere party in Los Angeles on June 30. “I’ve been married twice, he’s been married once, and I don’t really feel the urge or need to get married because I am so loyal to him and so committed.”

The Real Housewives of Orange County airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo. Episodes stream the next day on Peacock.
