‘So Horrific’: ‘Heartbroken’ Meghan Markle Can’t ‘Stop Crying’ Over Father’s Child Abuse Allegations
Meghan Markle is reportedly finding it hard to deal with allegations against her estranged father, Thomas Markle Sr. A friend told RadarOnline that the Duchess “cannot stop crying” over the claims. The insider said she has been “absolutely heartbroken” and is “struggling to get through the day.” It has been even harder for Markle as a mother of two.
Seeing her daughter, Princess Lilibet, reportedly makes the 45-year-old think about other children who may have suffered. The friend added, “The thought of any child being subjected to something so horrific is almost unbearable for her.” The source continued that Markle had tried to stay away from headlines and online talk about her father.
But messages of support from people in the U.S. and other countries have reportedly brought the allegations back into focus. The friend also noted that Markle has people close to her who are offering “emotional support.” They are also giving her the “space” she needs to deal with the situation.
The Sussexes are also reportedly spending time with close friends during Prince Archie and Lilibet’s school break. The controversy began after Markle’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., made serious claims about their father.
He accused Markle Sr. of having hundreds, possibly thousands, of explicit images involving children. Markle Jr. reportedly contacted Philippine police and the FBI over the claims. However, according to the Daily Mail, Markle Sr. has strongly denied the allegations, calling them “sick lies.”
On October 23, Justice Undersecretary Nicholas Ty told Reuters, “Our Anti-Trafficking and Anti-OSAEC (online s–xual abuse and exploitation of children) task force in Cebu is currently investigating the matter.” Markle addressed the controversy in a statement released on the same day. She said she was “deeply distressed” by the allegations and explained why she had kept her father away from Archie and Lilibet.
“I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications’ distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children was for one reason: to protect them,” she added. The Metropolitan Police later confirmed receiving a letter containing the allegations in January 2019.
Commander Adam Slonecki said the force shared it with Harry and Markle’s office but didn’t pass the information to other law enforcement agencies. On October 29, the Met confirmed that it would pass the allegations to the relevant overseas authorities. It also referred its handling of the letter to the police watchdog. The controversy also came as Markle prepares to return to Australian TV.
According to Network 10, announced on October 27, she will co-host Junior MasterChef Australia with Australian chef Poh Ling Yeow. The show is returning after a six-year break, with filming set to take place in Melbourne in 2027. Markle also spoke about her new role.
According to the TV network, she said, “When they approached me to come back and work with this young group of talent, it was an easy yes.” However, her appointment has not gone down well with everyone. A petition launched by Beyond Australia on October 28 is calling on Network 10 and Endemol Shine Australia to reconsider her involvement in the show.
