‘S.W.A.T Exiles’ follows Hondo with a new, untested team

The premiere date announcement for S.W.A.T. Exiles comes more than a year after CBS canceled S.W.A.T. for the third time. While the show had managed to come back twice after the network pulled the plug, the third time appeared to be the death knell for the action-packed procedural. However, Moore and others weren’t quite ready to throw in the towel. Sony Pictures Television decided to move forward with a spinoff focusing on Moore’s Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson character as he leads an entirely new team.

Filming on the 10-episode season wrapped up earlier this year, months before Sony had found a home for the series. But Starz may not be the only place where fans will be able to catch the new episodes. S.W.A.T. Exiles could eventually make its way to Netflix, Deadline reports. It will also be available to watch globally on various platforms, including CTV in Canada and Disney+ in Latin America.

In S.W.A.T. Exiles, Hondo is pulled out of forced retirement after a high-profile mission goes sideways. He’s tasked with leading a last-chance experimental S.W.A.T. unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits. Hondo will have to bridge a generational divide, navigate clashing personalities, and turn a squad of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city — and saving the program that made him who he is.

In addition to Moore, S.W.A.T. Exiles features Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares, and Ronen Rubinstein. S.W.A.T. star Jay Harrington returns as Sergeant David “Deacon” Kay, along with Patrick St. Esprit as Commander Robert Hicks, respectively. David Lim will appear as Victor Tan in the second-to-last episode.
