Steven McBee Jr. Wades Into Sophie Cunningham-West Wilson Debate About Trans Women in Sports 

Steven McBee Jr. has inserted himself into West Wilson and Sophie Cunningham’s disagreement about trans women in sports.

WNBA player Cunningham, who co-hosts a podcast with Summer House alum Wilson, has said that she doesn’t believe transgender women should be allowed to compete in women’s sports. Wilson disagrees, saying it’s a non-issue that can be handled on a case-by-case basis. McBee, who is part of the cast ofThe McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys, was a recent guest on conservative commentator Tomi Lahren’s podcast, where he made it clear he backed Cunningham over Wilson in the debate.

“As a man, the transgender sports things doesn’t necessarily affect me because if a woman wanted to come over and and play in men’s sports, ‘Hey, good luck,’” the Bravo personality said on the Tomi Lahren Is Fearless podcast. “I don’t think any man should be really speaking from their perspective on things.”

“I think the women’s side of that are the only ones that should have an actual opinion on things or vocalize that. And for Sophie to say what she did, you know, all the respect to her for coming out and standing firm in her beliefs,” he added.

“There was no secret… which way [Wilson] leaned politically and what he likes to promote,” McBee continued. 

McBee doesn’t agree with Wilson on the issue of transgender women in sports. But he does sympathize with the public beating he took because of his relationship with Summer House co-star Amanda Batula. 

“West and I we’re both Missouri boys. West is very different from me … it wasn’t like we were on great terms,” McBee said. “But to watch the guy get absolutely destroyed online as if he was a murderer… I just don’t believe in that. Even though I’m not the biggest fan of him and he isn’t a huge fan of us, I still hate to see something like that play out.”

In July, Cunningham made waves when she spoke about receiving “negative feedback” for “hating trans” in an ESPN interview. 

“I think that I am here to extend love,” Cunningham said. “But I also think, with that, love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”

Wilson, who is a friend of Cunningham from high school, doesn’t see things the same way. 

“Transgender athletes in American sports is such a borderline non-existent issue,” he said in a July 24 TikTok video. “Right-wingers have convinced a massive portion of people in our country that these people are, like, a threat to sports in America, when mathematically it’s not the case at all,” he said. “By continuing to platform this — politicians, athletes, journalists, news outlets — you’re only isolating transgender people even more by making them seem like this giant group of people is a threat to society, a threat to sports, when that’s just not proportionately the truth in any capacity.”

“To allow this to take our attention away from like housing and healthcare and wars and all the other actual harmful sh*t in our country is dumb,” he added.
