Taylor Swift is making a clear statement with her latest look.

Over the weekend, the “Karma” singer stepped out with her husband-to-be, Travis Kelce, to attend a wedding in Brooklyn. For the event, she wore a metallic dress with spaghetti straps and accessorized with a show-stopping jewelry set that was once owned by Elizabeth Taylor.

The Darlene De Sedle 22K gold and opal diamond suite includes matching chandelier-style earrings, ring, and a bracelet recently sold on the private market for $125,000. As the new owner of the pieces, Swift is linking herself with one of the most iconic women on the 20th century – one who is also the subject of a song on her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl.

Elizabeth Taylor remains one of the great modern collectors of jewellery, someone who understood that exceptional pieces carry narrative, provenance, and personality,” jewelery expert Justin Daughters, managing director at Berganza, said in an email. “By wearing jewels with that history attached, Swift is aligning herself with a lineage of glamour that feels intentional rather than trend-led.”

“The suite itself, with its opals, diamonds, and rich gold setting, carries a very particular kind of old Hollywood opulence,” he added. “Opals have historically symbolised passion, creativity, and emotional intensity, which makes them an interesting choice for Swift at this stage in her public image. They are softer and more romantic than a traditional diamond suite but still unmistakably luxurious.”

Given Swift’s penchant for storytelling in her music, it makes sense that she’d be drawn to these elegant pieces, Daughters explained.

“Elizabeth Taylor treated jewellery as part of storytelling,” he said. “Every piece she owned carried memory, romance or theatre. Taylor Swift clearly understands that language. Wearing jewels from Taylor’s personal collection instantly creates emotional and cultural associations that audiences recognise, even subconsciously.”

Swift has been spotted wearing individual pieces from the set over the past few months, but this was the first time she’s worn them all at once. Adam Fox of Fox Estate Jewelry, which sold the set at the end of 2025, suspects that Kelce may have bought the pieces for Swift as a gift.

“It was weird,” he explained in an Instagram Reel. “Cause this was a six-figure set. And it seemed like it was a sports agent that bought it.”

While everything “checked out fine” with the sale, Fox thought the transaction was a bit odd. As he told Page Six, buyers for these types of items will typically reach out before making a purchase, either with questions or to try to negotiate.

“It was like, weird. That was a weird deal,” he said. “I wake up this morning to an Instagram post, and it turns out it was either bought by or for Taylor Swift … I’m just kind of connecting the dots.”

“It’s amazing to how this was warn, owned by Elizabeth Taylor, disappeared for years, and it was subsequently bought by one of the most photographed people in the world,” he added.
