Expert Warns of the Dos and Don’ts for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Wedding

The pop princess and the football star plan to say “I do” in the near future – likely over the July 4 weekend, if reports are to be believed. However, before they tie the knot, they’re taking steps to protect the significant wealth that each is bringing into the marriage.

Swift’s dad, Scott Swift, ‘has quietly helped oversee an ironclad prenup—one that insiders say both Taylor and Travis fully support,” gossip columnist Rob Shuter recently shared on his Naughty But Nice Substack.

Scott is a former stock broker and financial advisor who is now the managing director of The Swift Group, a Merrill Lynch wealth management firm. He’s drawn on his financial expertise as he advised his daughter throughout her career. That’s apparently continuing as she prepares to wed.

“He’s a fist in a velvet glove,” an insider told Shuter. “Polite, charming, and incredibly warm—but when it comes to protecting his daughter and her business interests, nobody is sharper.”

Swift’s business interest are considerable. She’s worth somewhere between $1.6 billion and $2 billion, according to estimates. Kelce is less wealthy but still very rich, with a net worth of about $120 million thanks to his NFL career and other ventures.

“When you’re dealing with nearly $2 billion in combined assets, a prenup isn’t a sign of mistrust,” a source shared. “It’s smart business.”

Kelce reportedly has no issue with signing a prenup that protects his soon-to-be wife.

“Travis respects Scott tremendously,” the source revealed. “He understands that Scott helped build one of the most successful entertainment brands in history. There was never any drama and never any pushback.”

Celebrity prenups are common

Negotiating a prenup isn’t exactly the most romantic part of wedding planning. But it’s par for the course for the rich and famous.

“Typically, celebrities are going to have a lot more assets, a lot more money coming into the marriage that they get concerned about and want to ensure that, in the case of divorce, they’re going to be able to keep the assets they had coming into it,” divorce and family law attorney Kirk Stange told Showbiz Cheat Sheet last year.

Celeb prenup may include “lifestyle clauses,” which lay out rules about cheating, drug and alcohol use, and other issues, though courts often decline to enforce those clauses, said Stange, who is the founding attorney of Stange Law Firm and author of Prenuptial Agreements Line by Line. There may also be language regarding alimony.

“There could be clauses that bar anybody from getting spousal maintenance or alimony in the instance of divorce, or there could be limitations on the amount that’d be awarded for the length of time,” he said. “That could be quite common.”
