‘The Challenge’ Star Tyler Duckworth’s Cause of Death Remains Undetermined as Autopsy and Toxicology Are Pending

The cause of Tyler Duckworth’s death remains a mystery as authorities wait for the results of his autopsy and toxicology report. 

The Challenge alum was found deceased earlier this week, his mother, Joni Duckworth, shared on Facebook on August 13. He was 44. 

Foul play not suspected in Tyler Duckworth’s death

According to People, Police visited Duckworth’s residence in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on Tuesday after his downstairs neighbors reported water coming from their ceiling. They found Duckworth dead in his bathtub. It was not immediately clear when he died, but he was seen the previous day. There were no signs of foul play. A toxicology report may shed further light on what happened, but the results can take 10 to 12 weeks, authorities said. 

Duckworth’s reality TV career began in 2006 when he was a cast member on The Real World: Key West. He went on to appear on six seasons of Paramount+/MTV’s The Challenge, winning two: Cutthroat and Rivals. His most recent appearance on the competition show was in The Challenge: All Stars 3 in 2022. 

‘The Challenge’ alums mourn Duckworth’s death 

Duckworth was an active member of The Challenge community. He made his last public appearance at a fan event in Minneapolis on July 31. After his death, many Challenge alums took to social media to express their grief and share their condolences with his family. 

“Some friendships are measured in years. Others are measured in memories, laughter, shared experiences, and the way someone makes you feel when they are in the room. [Tyer Duckworth] you are one of those special people,” Tina Barta captioned an Instagram video of herself with Duckworth. “A true friend and confidant. It’s hard to find the right words when someone who was part of such a meaningful chapter of your life is suddenly gone.”

Barta added that she and Duckworth “shared an experience that very few people will ever fully understand,” which led to a true friendship. “How blessed am I to be surprised by your visit to Challengemania where I got to hug and kiss you one last time. We didn’t want to leave each other. We never do. I love you.”

Meanwhile, Challenge alum Wes Bergmann remembered Duckworth as “a remarkable man and a great friend to many.” 

“He made fantastic television,” Bergmann wrote on X. “He was a great challenger. He was a very good swimmer. And eater.  This is a really tough loss. Call your friends people.”
