The Markle Family Drama Bleeds Onto Social Media Amid Child Abuse Image Allegations Against Thomas Markle Sr.
The Markle family’s long-running feud has spilled back into public view, this time over the most serious accusation yet. Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle Sr., is under investigation in the Philippines over alleged possession of child sexual abuse material. He denies the allegations, and no charges have been reported. But his three children are now publicly at odds over the case. Much of the fight is playing out online.
Allegations against Thomas Markle Sr. surface
On Thursday, October 22, The Sun reported that Thomas Markle Jr., Meghan’s half-brother, had reported his father to Philippine authorities. He told the tabloid he discovered abuse images in storage boxes and hard drives at his father’s former home in Cebu province.
The Philippine Department of Justice confirmed that its anti-trafficking and online child exploitation task force is investigating. The government’s news agency said the 81-year-old has since left the Philippines, where he had been living since January 2025. He had previously lived in Mexico. He has reportedly returned to the United States.
The Philippines’ interior minister, Jonvic Remulla, told The Guardian that authorities found a trove of illegal material and a laptop at the home. He acknowledged that a family dispute is involved and that investigators are considering all angles. Still, Remulla said that so far, all signs point to a possible sex offender.
Meghan breaks her silence
Meghan, who has been estranged from her father since 2018, responded to the reports on October 23. In a statement to CBS News and other outlets, she said she was deeply distressed. She said the distance she has kept from her father, including her decision not to let him have contact with her children, was to protect them.
She also dropped a bit of a bombshell. In her statement, she revealed that in 2018, a letter containing disturbing allegations about her father was passed along through the Metropolitan Police’s Royalty and Specialist Protection command. The Met has said it is not investigating the elder Markle. He has never met Meghan and Prince Harry’s two children.
The rest of the family is battling it out in headlines and on social media
The Markle family drama didn’t end with an investigation and a public statement from the duchess. Nearly everyone in the family has weighed in one way or another. Thomas Markle Sr. denied the claims in an interview with the Daily Mail. He told the outlet he was shocked that his son would make such an accusation, insisting he could never do what he has been accused of. He went on to suggest that his son, Thomas Markle Jr., might be responsible for what was discovered at the residence.

Thomas Jr., for his part, has said he had no choice but to report what he found, but has otherwise kept a relatively low profile since. Samantha Markle, however, has not. Meghan’s half-sister has been a vocal critic of the Duchess for years, and now she’s turning her ire on her brother. She has called the allegations lies and accused Thomas Jr. of inventing them for revenge after he cut him off financially. On X, she argued that her father didn’t even have a home to investigate.
Meghan hasn’t escaped accusations, either. In remarks shared online by commentator Dan Wootton, Samantha raised the possibility of evidence tampering. She even asked whether the whole thing could be a PR play, questioning whether Meghan had paid their brother. She offered no evidence to back up those claims.
This is a developing story.
