Tyra Banks Says Fans ‘Lost Their Damn Minds’ Over Law Roach Clash on ‘Project Runway’

Earlier this, the supermodel joined the long-running fashion design competition series as a judge. But she disappeared from the panel after just five episodes. Banks’ unexplained exit came after she sparred with Roach during a judging session.

While the judges debated that week’s designs, the America’s Next Top Model host told the celebrity stylist that he was “overstepping” and “over-talking everybody,” adding that he was “making no damn sense.” Roach, for his part, didn’t agree with Banks’ opinions on that week’s designs, saying that anyone who voted the way she did was “stupid.”
“People lost their damn minds on that. Was it big to you? I didn’t think it was that big,” Banks told Entertainment Weekly in a new interview where she discussed the reissue of her cult-favorite novel, Modelland.
“That is so crazy,” she added, before hinting that there was no real bad blood between her and Roach, who was previously a judge on cycles 23 and 24 of ANTM.
“I don’t know if I should just let the lore live? Just enjoy the Banks-Law, Law-Banks [narrative],” she said. “I’m so confused. I’m like, what? We’re beefing? OK, we’re beefing. It’s just weird for me.”
Banks said that she didn’t know if she’d return to Project Runway, but implied that her early departure from season 22 didn’t have anything to do with her alleged drama with Roach.
“They’re like, ‘Oh, she did five episodes and then she left? She’s supposed to do 10!’ [But] y’all don’t know what my contract stated,” she said. “But, you know, what? Continue to enjoy!”
Law Roach said there ‘no Tyra situation at all’
Roach has also pushed back on speculation that he’s feuding with Banks, saying that they simply had a difference of opinion during judging.
“There’s no Tyra situation at all,” he told The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet at the 2026 Emmy Awards. “I think what I bring to the show is, you know, I’m not afraid to disagree with the judges.”
“And I think that it’s a forum, and it’s there because we all bring something to it and we all bring different opinions,” he added. “And if someone’s opinion differs from mine, then I say that and vice versa. I’ve had fights with Heidi [Klum]; I’ve had fights with Nina [García]; everyone, you know. For me, anybody can get the smoke.”
