Video Goes Viral of Sunbather Refusing to Move for Prince Harry and Meghan on Beach in Australia
Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, recently wrapped up their trip to Australia, which marked the first time the couple had been back to the country together since 2018.
The two were very well received back then, but things were a little different this time. Meghan and Harry are no longer working royals and are now private citizens. Therefore, many Australians were upset and asked why taxpayers had to fund a portion of their security costs. There was even a petition, which garnered over 45,000 signatures, against the pair’s visit. The Sussexes though carried on with their trip as planned and received mixed reactions during their time Down Under.
One stop on their trip was to Sydney’s Bondi Beach, where they met with first responders and survivors of the Dec. 14, 2025, terrorist attack during a Hanukkah celebration in which 15 people died. When the duke and duchess made their way onto the beach, dozens of onlookers quickly pulled out their phones to get a photo of the couple as they moved aside. Well, except for one woman who didn’t care who was coming as she continued to sun herself rather than move to clear a path for the former working royals walking towards her.
The clip that has been making the rounds online shows the beachgoer lying out on her towel and unfazed by the commotion around her as she just kept looking down at her book and refusing to move for the VIP guests. The Duke of Sussex noticed and pointed at her as they walked by, but did not say anything to her. However, commenters had a lot to say after seeing the video.
“Give that woman a nomination for Australian of the Year !! Kudos to her for not moving and not giving a rats about the nonsense!” one person wrote, while another added, “No civic sense, where are they rushing to? Get drowned in the sea?? They could have just stood far and watched. Why disturb people who actually came to relax at the beach?”
A third said, “Meghan and Harry literally walking over anyone in their way, with no thought to them at all. Meanwhile, the woman represents the rest of the world, unbothered and looking at them asking, ‘Who the hell are these attention-seekers?’ The symbolism is next level.”
A fourth posted, “Aussies don’t care who you are. They enjoy their day on the beach without giving protocol to anybody.” And a fifth chimed in, “Wow this woman embodies the true Australian spirit. Actually my Melbournian friends heck care about their visit too.”
And one Reddit user summed things up by pointing out the difference in today’s attitudes towards royals compared to previous decades, opining, “This is 2026, not everyone is going to worship the royals like it was 20 years ago. Expect to see a lot of people like her.”
