The Woman Who Wore the $100 Million Necklace to the Met Gala Last Year Just Wore Something More Expensive to the 2026 Event
Hundreds of celebrities and other high-profile individuals stepped out for “fashion’s biggest night” at the 2026 Met Gala. The stars posed on the carpet and famous steps of the museum as cameras captured their eye-catching outfits and stunning jewels.
A-listers like Beyoncé, Gabrielle Union, and Anne Hathaway donned some gorgeous diamonds. But the big headliner is the woman who stunned in the most expensive necklace ever worn to the Met last year, upped her game this year by rocking an even more expensive piece.
Neil Dutta, Managing Director of the U.K. jewelry retailer Angelic Diamonds, broke down her spectacular bling we saw on the carpet with diamonds that cost more than last year’s worth jewels $100 million.
In 2025, at the Met Gala’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” billionaire heiress Isha Ambani donned the Cartier toussaint necklace with the hefty price tag. At the time, it was the most expensive piece worn on the carpet.
“Isha Ambani’s necklace is one of those pieces that almost doesn’t feel real at first glance,” Dutta told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “You’re looking at over 480 carats of diamonds, with an 80-carat center stone. What gives it more depth is the reference to a Cartier design originally created for Indian royalty. It’s that link to a known historical piece that elevates it beyond simply being large, and for making it on the list as the most expensive (worth $100 million).”
However, Ambani topped that this year at the “Costume Art” theme with her custom Lorraine Schwartz diamond and emerald suite worth $135 million.
According to Dutta, “This is one of those pieces that almost doesn’t feel real when you first look at it. You are dealing with over 1,800 carats of diamonds, alongside a four-tier necklace built around old mine cut stones and a 50-carat emerald. Lorraine Schwartz is known for scale, but even for her, this sits at the very top end.”
