Zohran Mamdani Will Look Into Jay-Z’s Chaotic Yankee Stadium Concert
Jay-Z’s recent concert at Yankee Stadium has led New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to open an investigation into the lengthy delay. The show, which was scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. on Sunday, didn’t start until after midnight on Monday. Mamdani said he would look into the security breach that delayed the concert.
Concertgoers at Jay-Z’s Yankee Stadium show faced a four hour delay
Jay-Z recently played an anniversary show at Yankee Stadium. The show, which should have started at 8 p.m. on Sunday, didn’t kick off until 12:17 a.m. on Monday. Roc Nation later released a statement noting that many people without tickets attempted to get into the stadium.
“On Sunday evening at various fan entrances at Yankee Stadium, hundreds of individuals in large groups, who did not have tickets to tonight’s performance, stormed over peaceful ticketholders, and in some cases, breached security,” the statement said, per lohud.
Officials closed the gates for hours while they tried to get the situation under control.
“If there are 10,000 people outside, I’m not going to start music, and people get trampled,” Jay-Z told fans when he took the stage. “I’m really sorry for the inconvenience, but I had to make sure everybody’s OK. I appreciate your patience and we’re going to have a good time tonight.”
Zohran Mamdani said the city would look into Jay-Z’s Yankee Stadium concert
During an unrelated press conference, Mamdani answered a question about the delay at the concert.
“Last night is something that we’re going to follow up on, because I know that there are many New Yorkers who were delayed after a breach of security by those who didn’t have tickets, and then it resulted in a multiple-hour delay for many others,” Mamdani said, per NBC New York. “So, that’s something we’ll follow up on.”
Mamdani said that while he was not at the concert, he thought that the fact that Nas and Jay-Z performed together was “incredible.”
What guests did he bring out during the show?
Nas was not the only guest that Jay-Z brought out on stage with him. On night one of his three-night celebration, he brought out his wife, Beyoncé, and daughter, Blue Ivy.
Other guests included Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz, Slick Rick, Eminem, Pharrell Williams, Teyana Taylor, Usher, Rihanna, The-Dream, Fat Joe, Jadakiss, and more.
