Barack Obama
Barack Obama is an American politician, author, and lawyer. He is best known as the 44th president of the United States and the first African American to hold office. Obama served two terms from January 2009 to January 2017. His presidential achievements include signing the Affordable Care Act and negotiating the Iran Nuclear Deal.
Early in his career, the Harvard Law School graduate worked at a small Chicago law firm specializing in civil rights cases. There, he met his future wife, Michelle Obama. He also wrote his first book, the 1995 autobiography Dreams From My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance.
Segueing into politics, he was elected to the Illinois Senate in 1996 and the U.S. Senate in 2004. And three years before he took the nation’s highest office, he wrote the New York Times and Amazon bestseller The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream.
Since his presidency, he has founded the nonprofit Obama Foundation, led speaking engagements, and penned a memoir.
