Most people view celebrity parents as blissfully ignorant of the daily plight of “real parents” – the morning struggle to get your kids out of bed, getting your kids to eat well, and so on.

Singer Carrie Underwood allowed her fans a peek into her very real life as a hands-on mom to her two young sons via a sweet and very funny Instagram post this week.

Here’s what the superstar said.

Underwood’s two sons

The superstar singer has two young sons with professional hockey player, Mike Fisher. The couple was married in 2010 and welcomed their first son, Isaiah Michael, in 2015. Their younger son, Jacob Bryan, came along last year.

Traveling as a family on concert tours is something Underwood insists on. She loves her boys and doesn’t want to see them in between tour dates. It’s important to her to be present in their lives, even with her grueling schedule.

During the singer’s “Cry Pretty” tour last year, she opened up to Today’s’ Natalie Morales, telling her the lives of celebrity parents are very similar to everyone else’s.

“Everything that we all do is just as difficult, but in different ways,” Underwood said. “Going out on the road with a 3-month-old… I’m tired. But I mean, how many people get to take their children to work with them? I feel like moms put a lot of pressure on themselves to have it all together and know everything and plan for everything and you just … it’s impossible.”

Underwood opened up about miscarriages before Jacob

Before little Jacob came along last year, Underwood experienced three miscarriages in two years, which she talked honestly about recently.

Speaking with CBS Sunday Morning in 2018, the singer said, “I’d kind of planned that 2017 was, you know, going to be the year that I work on new music and I have a baby,” she said. “We got pregnant early 2017, and it didn’t work out.”

“In the beginning,” she went on, “it was like, ‘Okay, God, we know this just wasn’t your timing. And that is all right. We will bounce back and figure our way through it.'”

The couple hoped their next attempt to have a child would be more successful but they only experienced more heartbreak.

“We got pregnant again in the spring, and it didn’t work out,” she said. “Got pregnant again, early 2018. Didn’t work out. So, at that point, it was just kind of like, ‘OK, like, what’s the deal? What is all of this?’ ”

She shared that she finally reached the point where, as she put it, she got honest with God.

“I was like, ‘Why on Earth do I keep getting pregnant if I can’t have a kid? Like, what is this? . . .” she said. “For the first time, I feel like I actually I told God how I felt. And I feel, like, we’re supposed to do that. That was like a Saturday. And the Monday I went to the doctor to, like, confirm another miscarriage. And they told me everything was great!”

Isaiah’s sweet homework assignment

Underwood is clearly relishing motherhood and posted on Instagram this week that her older son is apparently unaware of his mom’s status as a superstar celebrity.

In his homework assignment, Isaiah adorably noted that his mother is a 70-year-old woman and that what she does for a living is his laundry.

Underwood said in her post, “Soooo…apparently I’m 70 and I’m really good at doing the laundry.”

His observations are sweet, and also endearing, because they show that his mom takes her superstar cape off at home and simply keeps it real with him.

She’s just mom to him, and that’s how the Before He Cheats pop star loves it.
