Peacemaker Season 1 just came to a close, but the series threw plenty of shade at the well-known heroes of the DC Extended Universe before it did. The Peacemaker finale even managed to work in a jab at the Green Arrow. And Arrow star Stephen Amell had a hilarious response to it.

Peacemaker insults the Green Arrow in the DC show’s finale

Peacemaker Episode 8 offers an action-packed and emotional conclusion to the DC show’s first season. However, it maintains the humor and tone of the previous episodes. It even remembers to throw a few final insults at other DC heroes — Aquaman and Green Arrow among them.

The most memorable joke sees Jason Momoa’s Aquaman confronted with the rumor that he has sex with fish. However, John Cena’s hero also works in a jab at the Green Arrow — a character whose presence in the DCEU hasn’t really been acknowledged in the films.

According to Christopher Smith, Green Arrow is someone who “goes to Brony conventions dressed as the back half of Twilight Sparkle with a four-inch butthole drilled in the costume.” It’s not as bad as his opinion of Batman. But it did get Arrow star Stephen Amell’s attention on Twitter.

Although the Green Arrow has yet to appear in DCEU films, he had a whole show on The CW. Stephen Amell brought the brooding hero to life on the small screen, and he had a hilarious reaction to the Peacemaker finale’s jab at his character.

When asked what he thought of the show — and its perspective of his character — on Twitter, Amell admitted he hasn’t watched Peacemaker. He also revealed what’s been keeping him busy, managing a dig at John Cena in the process.

“Haven’t seen it,” Amell said. “Too busy showing [John] Cena what professional wrestling should actually look like on TV.”

Amell may not watch Peacemaker, but he’d certainly fit in on the series, especially with a burn like that. And Christopher Smith name-dropping the Green Arrow does raise another question: could the character have a future in the DCEU even though Arrow ended?

With Peacemaker referencing Green Arrow, one has to wonder if some iteration of the hero will appear in a future DC project. If nothing else, it confirms he operates in the same universe as Christopher Smith. Whether this Green Arrow is the same one that appears in the CW series is another story.

During a 2021 appearance on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast, Stephen Amell did admit he’s open to reprising the role, and he specifically mentioned HBO Max — the same platform Peacemaker streams on:

“You know, I was thinking about this question as I drove here. And if the opportunity ever came up to do six to eight episodes of Arrow as, like, a limited series on Netflix or HBO Max — or something like that — or on The CW, as the case may be, I think that would be amazing.”

Of course, having an Arrowverse character show up in a DCEU film would mark a first for the franchise. And there’s no telling if that’s the direction WarnerMedia is headed in.

Only time will tell if Peacemaker and Green Arrow actually cross paths in the DCEU. In the meantime, fans can enjoy the entire first season of Peacemaker, which is currently streaming on HBO Max.
