Angelina Jolie Lists Historic Hollywood Home as She Prepares to Leave Los Angeles
Angelina Jolie has said for years that she hopes to leave the United States once her youngest children turn 18. Now she’s taking another step toward that goal, preparing to say goodbye to a piece of Old Hollywood by listing her legendary mansion for $29.85 million. Here’s everything you need to know.

The news that Angelina Jolie has listed her Los Angeles home didn’t make headlines just because of who she is. The house also has a long and illustrious history among Hollywood’s elite. The estate at 2000 DeMille Drive sits in Laughlin Park, a gated, celebrity-filled enclave of Los Feliz. It was designed around 1913 by prominent architect B. Cooper Corbett.
Iconic filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille bought the home in 1916. In 1920, he expanded the estate by purchasing the neighboring property, once home to Charlie Chaplin, and connecting the two. DeMille lived there until his death in 1959, and his family held on to the estate until 1988. In 1990, the palatial property sold for $1.5 million to novelist Richard Grossman and art consultant Lisa Lyons, who owned it for nearly three decades before selling it to Jolie in 2017, following her split from Brad Pitt.
The property spans roughly 2.1 acres and includes about 11,000 square feet of living space, with six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. Alongside the Beaux-Arts main residence are a guest house with a studio, a pool house, a fitness studio, a tea house and a detached garage with a security station. There’s even a hidden treehouse, plus panoramic views of the Hollywood Hills and Griffith Observatory.
Why is she selling now?
The estate has served Jolie well. She bought it in 2017 for $24.5 million, and it became her primary residence after her divorce from Brad Pitt and the home where her six children spent much of their young lives.
Jolie had lived a jet-setting lifestyle before the purchase, but she had a reason for settling down in California: she largely had to. Custody arrangements kept her in Los Angeles. In 2021, she told British Vogue that part of the property’s appeal was its proximity to Pitt, who lived only minutes away from their shared children.
Now that her youngest children are 18, Jolie is ready to move on, and she hasn’t been coy about her plans. In 2024, she told The Hollywood Reporter that she was in Los Angeles only because of her divorce and that she would be able to leave once her youngest children turned 18. The twins, Vivienne and Knox, reached that milestone in July.
Jolie quietly renovated the estate and began showing it to pre-qualified buyers before listing it in early May, but there doesn’t appear to be a buyer yet. The home hit the market just as the area’s market began softening, though its pedigree may help it stand out.
