Less than one week after Sean “Diddy” Combs’ prison release date moved forward, it was pushed back again. Combs reportedly recently got into a fight while behind bars. Despite this, it’s not entirely clear why he received a new release date. At this point, the Bureau of Prisons has not shared its reasoning.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs got into a fight in prison

Last week, TMZ reported that Combs got into a fight with a fellow inmate at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey. The other inmate reportedly insulted Combs, who responded with violence. Prison staff quickly broke up the fight, and Combs went to solitary confinement. 

Despite the infraction, Combs’ release date moved forward. Initially, he was scheduled to leave Fort Dix on May 8, 2028. After several release date changes, his release date changed to Jan. 24, 2028. A variety of factors can lead to a change in a prison release date, including good behavior.

Though Combs’ release date just jumped to January, it has recently moved back to Feb. 20, 2028. He has also had release dates of February 23, 2028; April 15, 2028; April 25, 2028; and June 4, 2028. When Combs’ release date changed last week, his team did not know why. 

“At this point we do not have the necessary information to respond with any clarity,” a spokesperson for Diddy told Us Weekly.

At this point, Fort Dix and the Federal Bureau of Prisons have not shared the reason for the change. They previously noted that they could not share any information about inmates’ infractions. 

“We are not at liberty to disclose or provide internal information pertaining to any inmate in our custody,” Fort Dix told TMZ. “Such information would not be available for the public domain.”

The Federal Bureau of Prisons also said that they would not share details about “disciplinary matters, or other information regarding individual inmates due to privacy, safety, and security concerns.”

He said he was hoping to change while in prison

Combs enrolled in a drug rehabilitation program while behind bars. His representatives say that he is committed to bettering himself. In a letter to the judge ahead of his sentencing, Combs said that drugs were the reason for his actions. 

He said that after his arrest, he was “now sober for the first time in 25 years,” adding that he was trying “to deal with my drug abuse and anger issues” (via CBS News). He later noted that he hoped his time in prison would change his life.

“Prison will change you or kill you — I choose to live,” he wrote.
