From Taylor Swift to Madison Beer: Why These Celebrity Engagement Rings Have Become so Popular
Less than a year after an NFL superstar and pop icon shared with the world that they were tying the knot, another football player and pop singer announced their engagement.
Before Justin Herbert and Madison Beer shared their happy news, Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift nearly broke the internet with their joint Instagram post on Aug. 26, 2025, that was captioned: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
Included in the Kansas City Chiefs tight end and the “Karma” songstress’ announcement was a carousel of photos that showed moments from the garden proposal and Swift’s stunning ring. Jewelry expert Zach Stone of the U.K. retailer Steven Stone shared details about the “Blank Space” hitmaker’s ring shortly after its debut.
He explained that the it “features a striking 12-carat cushion-cut diamond — an elongated shape with softly rounded corners that balances brilliance with a romantic, understated elegance. The stone sits in a yellow gold setting, paired with a simple, polished band that lets the diamond take center stage. The piece leans toward a vintage or antique-inspired aesthetic. The bold diamond, combined with the warm glow of yellow gold, gives it a timeless quality.
“Taylor often embraces vintage romance in her artistry, particularly during her ‘Folklore’ and ‘Evermore’ eras. Antique-style jewelry also carries with it a sense of history and memory. Just as Taylor infuses nostalgia and storytelling into her lyrics, this ring feels as though it could hold a story of its own.”
Herbert and Beer’s proposal post showcased a beautiful ring as well, which has some similarities to Swift’s rock.
Diamond expert and founder of his Mokume Gane jewelry company, Jaume Labro, took a closer look at the specifics of Beer’s ring. Like Swift’s, the design happens to be popular amongst celebrities now.
Speaking on behalf of Cafe Casino, he told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “At center stage [of Beer’s ring] is a spectacular rare elongated cushion cut diamond estimated to weigh (approximately) 10 carats and set as a pure solitaire. Suspended on a very slim band of either yellow gold or platinum, the diamond is held securely by discreet compass prongs that draw all eyes straight to its pattern of clear facets.
“Finding such large, elongated cushions with such exceptional color and clarity is very hard indeed so total value of the ring is estimated to range comfortably from $500,000 to well over $1 million dollars. Design expresses this shift away from busy halo settings or bands with multiple stones by letting a single heirloom vintage stone lead toward quiet luxury.”
Labro added, “Celebrities have overwhelmingly gravitated toward elongated cushion cuts because this diamond successfully fuses classic romance with modern geometry. Cushion cuts retain soft pillow corners and intense fire but also have slender finger lengthening proportions that are typical of ovals or emeralds.
“This unique combination maximizes the surface area of the diamond on the finger and makes it appear much larger than its carat weight while still looking very sophisticated.”
