‘Hollywood Medium’ Star Tyler Henry’s Out-Of-Body Experience During Brain Surgery Convinced Him There ‘More to Life Than What We See’
Tyler Henry may have seen the other side.
The psychic medium known for helping celebrities connected with their deceased loved ones opened up about his health challenges and his own brush with death during a recent appearance on the Howie Mandel Does Stuff podcast.
Tyler Henry opens up about third brain surgery
Last year, Henry had brain surgery – his third – to remove a tumor. The experience was intense.
While the procedure was ultimately successful, Henry came out of it with significant memory loss. It took him months to “get to some baseline,” he shared, adding that there was ” a lot” that he couldn’t recall. And when he was in the operating room, he had what he described as a near-death experience.
“I had what is called a tonic clonic seizure, like a grand mal seizure, while I was being operated on … I ended up getting put on this ventilator to save my life and it was this incredibly intense process. And through that, I had an out-of-body experience, which was really bizarre,” he told Mandel.
“I saw myself getting wheeled down this long hallway and uh it it was unlike any surgery I’d ever had before,” he shared.
The Life After Death With Tyler Henry star shared that he was about six to eight feet above his left shoulder as he was being wheeled through the hospital. His first thought was that he did not look good.
“Then then it dawned on me, ‘Oh, you know if I’m able to observe this something has gone wrong and and I’m following my body.’ So it was bizarre,” he said.

Henry later confirmed that he had been moved through a hallway at some point during his surgery, which he somehow was aware of, despite the anesthesia.
“At Cedars Sinai, they have these really long white hallways that almost look spooky,” he said. “And so, you know, when I was going through, I was thinking, ‘Oh god, am I, you know, dead?’ But it was just a very interesting architecturally built hallway that I was able to like notice.”
Henry said that during his out-of-body-experience, he was close to death. But he chose to return to his body.
“I was given this choice of either to stay or to go. And I wanted to stay,” he said. “I saw all of the things I had to stay for, my husband, my parents, almost kind of like a slideshow of sorts that was just kind of playing out in front of me visually. And so those were all kind of reminders of what I had to live for and in coming back it it made me appreciate them even more than I already did.”
The experience also reaffirmed Henry’s belief that there is some kind of existence after physical death.
“I’d heard people have these experiences. And then to go through it myself just gave me in coming back a complete knowingness that there was more to life than what we see,” he said. “And that’s a knowingness that I may never be able to convince people of, but when you experience it firsthand, it just changes you fundamentally.”
