Inside Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s Wedding Weekend Schedule
It’s official, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are husband and wife. The couple’s long-anticipated nuptials went down at Madison Square Garden on July 3, in much the way rumors insisted it would for weeks. The venue wasn’t the only thing extraordinary about the event, either, and the schedule needed to pull it off is pretty impressive. This is how the couple’s big day came to be.
Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s wedding weekend
Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift said “I do” in a star-studded celebration on July 3 in New York City, but preparations of the big event began days earlier. City permits obtained by the AP prove just how tight the logistics of the setup and event actually were. While some preparations began last week, with deliveries spotted heading to the venue days before the big event, the bulk of the event was set up and pulled together in the last two days.
Permits show that the big wedding weekend officially kicked off on Thursday, July 2, at around 6:30pm. Roughly 100 guests arrived for a “pre-party celebration.” The event was the couple’s rehearsal dinner. After the rehearsal dinner let out around 10:30, crews took to the streets to construct tents and staging areas. Street closures went into effect in the morning hours of July 3.
Swift was spotted leaving her apartment on July 3 in the morning, and heading to the venue. While Swift and her closest friends arrived to Madison Square Garden earlier in the day, the main event began at 5pm. A cocktail hour on the venue’s concourse kicked off the celebration. While it’s unclear exactly how long the party ran, permits allowed the venue to remain open and operating until 4am. More than 100 NYPD officers were pulled in to secure the perimeter and control crowds and traffic. Clean up is expected to last throug most of July 4, but no additional event is planned at Madison Square Garden after the reception.
The Wedding Wasn’t Always Going to Be at MSG
Before Madison Square Garden ever entered the picture, Swift and Kelce had a much different wedding weekend planned. According to a report from Us Weekly, the couple originally planned to marry in Rhode Island with June 13 circled on the calendar. June was a month that a celebrity psychic suggested would be particularly auspicious for the pair, and 13 is Swift’s lucky number.
An insider told the outlet that “Taylor and Travis really wanted their wedding in Rhode Island,” but the plan unraveled once security became a concern. “Ocean House was planned at one point, and then plans changed to New York.” Security and privacy were easier to come by in the Big Apple thanks to the unconventional venue choice.
