Jay-Z Called Out for Being a Hypocrite After Colin Kaepernick Freestyle
During a recent concert at Yankee Stadium, Jay-Z referenced Colin Kaepernick during a freestyle aimed at his critics. He noted that Kaepernick signed an NDA after reaching a settlement with the NFL in 2019. This is ultimately not true, though. People also called Jay-Z hypocritical for the line.
Jay-Z called out Colin Kaepernick during a recent concert
Jay-Z had a three-night anniversary celebration at Yankee Stadium. During a freestyle on the first night, he called out Kaepernick.
“They run out of characters, had to bring back up Kap again. Buddy took a check, I ain’t even mad at him, but along with that check you have to sign a non-disparagement. I’m the one they can’t control.”
In 2019, Kaepernick reached a settlement with the NFL after accusing it of pushing him out of the league because of his political activism. A source told TMZ Sports that Kaepernick never signed an NDA when he settled his lawsuit with the NFL.
“Colin couldn’t post about how many days it’s been since a team hired him,” if he’d signed a non-disclosure agreement, the source explained.
People think Jay-Z is a hypocrite for his words about Colin Kaepernick
Though Jay-Z rapped about Kaepernick taking a check from the NFL, he has a partnership with them. His company, Roc Nation, produces the Super Bowl halftime show every year.
“Jay-Z also took a check from the NFL, a much bigger check in fact,” wrote one Reddit user.
“The King of All Sellouts erroneously calling someone else a sellout?” wrote someone else. “That’s rich.”
“Jay Z works with them for the Super Bowl, though,” added another person. “No biggie. Lol.”
People also wondered why Jay-Z would bring this up years after Kaepernick settled with the NFL.
“His [conscience] is eating him up cause why would he bring this up years later,” one person questioned.
Another person also pointed out that Jay-Z previously expressed support for Kaepernick.
“Only a billionaire could compare a settlement for what basically amounts to workplace discrimination and wrongful termination to him working with the same organization to repair their image after said collusion,” they said. “It was a sell out move, especially considering the Carters initially supported Colin.”
Beyoncé presented the football player with an award
In 2017, Beyoncé presented Colin Kaepernick with Sports Illustrated’s Muhammad Ali Legacy Award. She said she was proud to give him the award.
“Colin took action with no fear of consequence or repercussion,” she said, per CBS News. “Only hope to change the world for the better. To change perception, to change the way we treat each other. Especially people of color.”
In 2016, Kaepernick began kneeling during the national anthem at football games to protest racism and police brutality.
