There has been a bit of shuffling around at FCI Seagoville, it seems. The federal lockup, where Josh Duggar has been housed since 2022, has bid farewell to the infamous reality TV star. Josh Duggar has been moved to the Federal Medical Center, just 45 minutes from his original lockup. The change has raised a few questions, but answers are coming slowly.

Josh Duggar Moved to a New Federal Prison

Last month, Josh Duggar was hoping for a change of scenery by way of a successful appeal. He did not get his wish. He has, however, been given a change of address. In recent days, Josh Duggar was moved from FCI Seagoville to a federal prison that focuses on inmates with complex medical needs. The U.S. Sun was the first to report on the transfer.

FMC Fort Worth is an administrative-security facility operated by the Bureau of Prisons that houses male inmates requiring specialized or ongoing medical and mental health care. Prisons like FMC house prisoners from all security levels, unlike the low-security housing unit he was in previously. The U.S. Sun spoke to a spokesperson who noted that individual inmates’ medical and disciplinary records and reasons for transfers remain confidential.

While it is unclear if a health issue prompted Josh Duggar’s move, the spokesperson did tell the outlet that an inmate could be moved to the facility for a variety of medical or mental health needs. They also noted that the facility may provide specialized care unavailable at an inmate’s previous assignment.

The transfer comes at an odd time for the Duggar family. In April 2026, reports emerged that Josh Duggar had been sent to solitary confinement for violating prison rules. It would not be his first visit to the special housing unit. His release date was also pushed back, further pointing to disciplinary issues. Coincidentally, Josh Duggar’s latest in-prison issues started around the time his younger brother, Joseph Duggar, was arrested on child sexual abuse charges. Those charges are still pending.

A Facility With Famous Residents

Josh Duggar’s new federal home, at least for now, is no stranger to famous faces. Over the years, FMC Fort Worth has housed several high-profile convicts. Several crime bosses have passed through the federal lockup’s halls, as have politicians and infamous fraudsters. Right now, though, Josh Duggar will be joining Joe Exotic at the facility.

Joseph Maldonado-Passage, the focus of Tiger King, is serving a 21-year sentence at the facility following his conviction on a murder-for-hire plot that targeted Carole Baskin. He is being housed at the medical facility due to complex medical needs, including a prostate cancer diagnosis.

It remains unclear why Josh Duggar was moved to the facility, or if it will be his final stop. Still, it’s uncommon for individuals not dealing with a serious medical concern to pass through the system at FMC Fort Worth.

The Arrest, the Trial, and the Sentence

Josh Duggar’s path to federal prison actually began back in 2019, when federal agents raided a car lot he owned and operated. While it took 18 months for agents to arrest the eldest Duggar boy, they did so on April 29, 2021. He was charged with possessing and receiving child pornography.

In December 2021, Josh Duggar’s trial began in front of Judge Timothy L. Brooks and a jury of his peers. He was ultimately found guilty. Judge Brooks sentenced him to 151 months in federal lockup in May 2022. He was transferred from Washington County Detention Center to FCI Seagoville not long after his sentencing hearing. Since his conviction, he has been appealing the ruling, with his most recent appeal being tossed out on June 1 after a judge ruled that he filed his paperwork too late.

Duggar has retained attorney Beau Brindley, best known for representing R. Kelly, during his appeal. Despite the high-profile legal prowess, the chances of a successful appeal get slimmer by the day.

This is a developing story.
