What King Charles Uses in His Bath Instead of Soap, Revealed by Former Employee
There has been a lot of chatter over the years about the strict rules King Charles‘ staffers must follow and what requirements the monarch has in his daily routine that are delegated to his employees.
Back when he was still the Prince of Wales before becoming the monarch, reports swirled that employees called him the “Pampered Prince” because of all the tasks he had others do for him. Former royal butler Paul Burrell claimed that the king was very meticulous about things and made sure everything that was done for him was carried out in a specific manner.
“He has grown up in such a privileged lifestyle that he doesn’t have the mechanics to choose for himself anymore,” Burrell said in the Amazon documentary Serving the Royals: Inside the Firm. “Absolutely everything is done for him.”
The former butler explained that baths are always drawn for the king and “his underwear is folded in a certain way and his bath towel has to be placed in a certain fashion. When it comes to bathing, the bath plug has to be in a certain position, the water temperature has to be just tepid, and only half full.”
But something many people don’t know about the king is that he doesn’t use soap or traditional bubble bath in the tub, according to another senior staffer.
Jack Stooks is a British horticultural expert and was King Charles’ senior gardener at the royal’s Highgrove estate for more than two decades. He played a key role in maintaining and developing the king’s vision for sustainable and organic gardening. As part of the royal family’s trusted team, Stooks was a key part of daily life and attended King Charles’ wedding to Queen Camilla, as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s nuptials. Today, he frequently shares his gardening tips and also offers royal commentary on current stories.
Speaking on behalf of Heart Bingo, Stooks told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “The king uses lime oil in his bath in place of a traditional bubble bath. He used to use one from the Highgrove Shop, and just a few drops in his bath. Lime oil has such a lovely scent, and it’s meant to be really good for your skin.”
Stooks continued, “But the main reason he used it was he developed this brilliant system where his used bath water is saved and used to water the garden — and the lime oil is safe to use on plants. It’s plumbed in a way that the water goes straight into these big barrels outside, and the water is then used around the garden.
“It’s very clever, and it means nothing is wasted. He doesn’t like any waste. He’s always thinking about the environment and ways he can do his bit. He’s so forward- thinking. We all know he’s passionate about the world around us and he practices what he preaches.”
