Did the Married at First Sight experts blow it? 

Paul Brunson and Dr. Lisa Paz took over matchmaking duties for the 20th season of reality series. But the pair didn’t exactly hit it out of the part with their picks. Of the seven couples, just one remained married at the reunion. Some of the matches seemed particularly ill-conceived, with some fans wondering if people had been paired up for drama, rather than because they’d make a good couple. 

Now, two of this season’s ill-matched cast members are weighing in on the matchmaking process, and whether they should have been paired together from the start.

Marissa (who married Adam) and Nick (who married Courteney) were guests on the inaugural episode of Brunson and Paz’s new podcast, Love In Session, which released on August 31. 

During the season 20 reunion, the experts admitted that they considered having Marissa marry Nick. On the podcast, Brunson asked them what they thought of that idea. 

“This is so messy right out of the gate,” Nick said with a laugh. “Look, I think it’s a fair topic.”

Nick said he hadn’t had the chance to really get to know Marissa, so he couldn’t say what a relationship with her might have been like. 

“But obviously, Courteney and me were like, one of the worse couples there in terms of chemistry,” he continued. “And watching Marissa, I did feel like she was more on the easygoing side and like, go with the flow … I do think probably it would have gone better. Would we have made it to Decision Day? No idea.”

Marissa agreed that she would likely have had a better MAFS experience if she’d found Nick standing at the altar rather than Adam. 

“If Nick and I were matched, I don’t think it would have been as traumatic as either of our pairings,” she said. “Because we both are way more easygoing. We were both paired with very intense people. And I think Nick and I would have had a bunch of fun.”

“Who knows if we would have made it to Decision Day,” she added. “But I think it would have been so cordial and just a great experience.”
