Prince William and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) are one of the most talked-about and searched couples in the world. But another couple just had a crowning moment in their own backyard.

English soccer player Harry Kane and his wife, Katie Goodland, wowed fans with their appearance at the 70th annual Ballon d’Or gala on Oct. 26. The ceremony took place at the London Palladium Theatre, and Kane took home the 2026 Men’s Ballon d’Or.

After receiving the honor, Kane thanked Goodland, whom he called his “best friend.” The two have been together for decades as they are childhood sweethearts. The pair gave fans plenty of relationship goals even before the ceremony kicked off when they walked the red carpet together.

Kane and Goodland brought the glamour to the carpet in coordinated black-tie looks. The athlete wore a classic black tuxedo with his signature hairstyle, while Katie opted for an elegant off-the-shoulder black gown complemented by glossy blonde Hollywood waves, looking every bit like football royalty.

Now, a hair expert on Fresha is sharing how fans can achieve their looks at home.

Danielle Louise is a hairstylist and beauty expert listed on Fresha, the world’s leading AI-powered booking platform for beauty and wellness. She explains how to achieve the hairstyles and the common mistakes that can ruin the finished result.

For Goodland’s waves, the secret is keeping curls in place all evening.

“Katie’s hair is a lovely example of how a classic hairstyle can still look modern,” Louise noted. “The waves have a polished finish, but they aren’t overly structured or stiff. One of the biggest mistakes people make when recreating Hollywood waves is brushing through the curls before they’ve had time to cool.

“If you curl your hair and immediately start brushing it, you can lose that definition very quickly, especially if your hair naturally struggles to hold a curl. Let each section cool completely before gently brushing the curls together. That’s what helps create those smooth, flowing waves rather than lots of separate ringlets.”

Louise recommends using a heat protectant, curling sections consistently in the direction of the desired wave, and finishing with a lightweight hairspray, pointing out that “The goal is to have movement and shine. Using too much hairspray or heavy styling cream can actually weigh the hair down and make those waves drop faster.”

And to achieve the England team captain’s hairstyle, the expert says, “Harry’s haircut is a great example of a classic men’s style that doesn’t need to be complicated. The shorter sides keep everything looking tidy, while the extra length on top gives you enough hair to create volume and shape.

“If you’re trying to recreate Harry’s look, I’d avoid loading your hair with wet-look gel or heavy pomade, particularly if your hair is fine. Those products can make the hair clump together and leave more of the scalp visible. Instead, blow-dry the hair upwards and slightly backwards to create some natural lift, then use a small amount of matte paste or a lightweight styling cream to keep it in place. You want the hair to look polished but still have some natural movement.”
