Taylor Swift recently wore a 65-carat diamond necklace to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony. A jewelry expert explained that the garland-looking necklace could have possibly been clunky-looking. He shared how Swift’s necklace avoided this.

Swift was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. She wore a velvet mini dress with a diamond necklace. Jewelry expert Nilesh Rakholia, the founder of Abelini, said the piece impressed him.

“It’s difficult to look past 65 carats of diamonds, but what caught my attention wasn’t necessarily the size. It’s how beautifully the stones have been arranged,” he explained. “With a necklace like this, there’s a fine line between something that looks incredibly expensive and something that actually looks beautifully designed, and Taylor’s manages to do both.”

The necklace features pear-cut diamonds. Rakholia shared how this cut can give jewelers a lot to work with.

“Pear cuts are particularly interesting because the rounded end and tapered point give jewellers much more to play with in terms of shape and movement. Here, the arrangement almost resembles a garland, with the diamonds creating this lovely floral effect around her neck.”

He shared what impressed him about Taylor Swift’s necklace

The diamonds on Swift’s necklace are quite large. Despite this, Rakholia said that it didn’t look overly heavy. It easily could have.

“What impresses me is how light the whole thing looks,” he said. “When you’re working with diamonds of this size, it would be very easy for the necklace to feel heavy or overly structured, but the graduated arrangement gives it a softness that you don’t always see in high jewellery. It’s extravagant, obviously, but there’s still something wonderfully delicate about it.”

He noted that it also avoids all the pitfalls of working with pear-cut diamonds.

“Pear cuts can be particularly unforgiving when they’re placed next to each other,” he said. “Some are wider, some are more elongated, and even a slight difference in the shape of the shoulders can disrupt the overall balance. That’s where the craftsmanship really comes in, because you’re not simply choosing the best individual stones; you’re choosing the stones that work best together.”

Her outfit also complemented the piece of jewellery

Swift’s velvet dress also was the perfect choice to complement the diamonds.

“I actually think the velvet dress is doing quite a lot of work here,” Rakholia said. “That deep burgundy is a beautiful backdrop for white diamonds, and the floral detailing picks up on the softer shapes in the necklace. There’s a connection between the two without it feeling too coordinated, which is quite clever styling.”

While Swift easily could have paired the necklace with a long gown, Rakholia believes it suited the minidress well.

“And I love that she’s worn something this extravagant with a minidress. You could easily imagine a necklace like this with a floor-length gown at the Oscars, but the shorter silhouette makes it feel much more playful. It’s still 65 carats of diamonds, of course, but there’s something refreshing about not treating it like a museum piece.”
