Taylor Swift’s Academy Museum Gala Earrings Likely Cost Well Over Half a Million Dollars
Taylor Swift recently attended the Academy Museum Gala in a beautiful Dior gown. Many people have praised the look, and jewelry expert Nilesh Rakholia said that all of her accessories perfectly complemented it. He said that the Chopard earrings she wore were stunning and expensive. They could have cost over half a million dollars.
Taylor Swift wore Chopard earrings to the Academy Museum Gala
Swift wore a Dior gown with diamond Chopard earrings. Rakholia, the founder of Abelini, said that this was one of Swift’s best looks ever.
“I’ll say it straight away: this is the best I’ve seen Taylor look on a red carpet,” he said. “The dress is beautiful, and there’s something bridal about it. The strapless neckline, the pale colour and the volume in the skirt all hint at a wedding gown, which feels fitting for a newlywed. A look this soft and romantic can drift towards sugary, and the earrings pull it back into focus.”
He explained that her Chopard earrings looked to be 32.40 carats of diamonds set in platinum in a cascading diamond shape. He believes that the earrings likely cost a tremendous amount of money.
“Chopard’s established diamond collections provide some context, but its haute joaillerie pieces sit at a different level,” he said. “Taking the reported 32.40 carats of diamonds, platinum setting and the house’s high-jewellery craftsmanship into account, I’d provisionally estimate the pair at around £375,000 to £510,000 (approximately $500,000 to $680,000) at retail.”
Taylor Swift’s choice to not wear a necklace at the Academy Museum Gala was the right one
Swift opted not to wear a necklace at the Academy Museum Gala. Rakholia believes that this was the right move. A necklace could have made the look seem too busy.
“I wouldn’t have added a necklace,” he said. “The strapless neckline leaves a lovely stretch of open skin between her face and the bodice, and that space is half the reason the earrings work. Fill it and the top half of the look gets busy very quickly.”
The dress also already had enough shine to it. It didn’t need a necklace to add dimension.
“The dress already has a bow and plenty of sparkle across the bodice,” he said. “A big diamond necklace would have put another focal point right above it. As it is, the earrings sit apart from the embellishment, so you can enjoy both.”
He noted that Swift’s styling went against traditional jewelry rules, which makes the decision even better.
“A lot of people assume a bare neckline needs something, especially at a formal event. I’d disagree,” he said. “With earrings this striking, an empty neck makes them look better, because the jewellery has a clean outline against her skin. It’s also very much how a bride would wear it, with the focus kept on the face and the earrings. For me, that’s the smartest styling decision of the night. She’s wearing an extraordinary number of diamonds and still looks like she has room to breathe.”
Her hair was also perfect for the look
Swift wore her hair in soft curls. Rakholia said that this was the best choice to complement the earrings.
“The hair deserves credit too,” he said. “The curls soften everything, and they leave enough of the earrings on show for the shape to register. There’s no point choosing exceptional chandeliers and then hiding the best bits behind your hair.”
He said that all of these elements together are what made the look so strong.
“A severe updo would have made the same jewellery feel much more formal,” he said. “This has all the glamour of traditional evening jewellery, but the softness around her face stops it feeling stiff. That’s why I’d rank this among her best looks. The earrings, hair and neckline were clearly thought about together.”
