Angelina Jolie is one step closer to cutting ties with Los Angeles completely. The iconic actor has been speaking about leaving California for years, but now she’s sold the historic estate she called home. The house, which sold in late September, was rumored to have been purchased by Madonna, but apparently, that is not the case.

Angelina Jolie’s Los Feliz estate has a new owner

Angelina Jolie walked away with $24.75 million on Sept. 24, after closing on the property she raised her children in. The process went relatively quickly. Jolie listed the home for sale in May for $29.85 million. She paid $24.5 million for the property back in 2017, a record-setting sale for the neighborhood at the time.

The buyer’s identity hasn’t been made public. The deal was reportedly completed through an LLC set up by a Hollywood attorney. There is nothing out of the ordinary there. It’s a common purchasing process for high-profile buyers who want to keep their addresses private. Despite the anonymity, rumors have been flying.

Madonna was rumored to be the new owner

Long before the buyers took ownership of the Los Feliz estate, rumors began swirling that Madonna was interested in the house. Back in August, the New York Post reported that Madonna’s team had arranged a virtual tour of the home for the pop icon.

After the sale went through, a local real estate source and then Robb Report identified the “Like a Prayer” singer as the buyer. If true, it would have been a great Hollywood story, with one Hollywood icon handing the historic home over to another icon.

Angelina Jolie’s real estate agent shut down the rumors

On Thursday, Oct. 8, Ernie Carswell, who co-listed the property, appeared on The Society Group’s Real Talk and denied that Madonna was the buyer. He declined to name who did buy it, saying the buyer’s identity is protected by a nondisclosure agreement. Still, he insisted that Madonna is not the owner, though he did not deny her reported interest in the property.

Carswell went on to explain that there was a pretty thorough process for prospective buyers to even get in the door. He noted that background checks were run on everyone interested in seeing the home. The extra security step was likely partly due to Jolie’s celebrity as well as the home’s history.

The estate’s appeal goes well beyond its most recent owner. The Beaux Arts-style mansion was designed by architect B. Cooper Corbett and built in 1913 in Laughlin Park, a gated enclave in Los Feliz. Its most famous resident was legendary filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille, the director behind The Ten Commandments, who bought the home in 1916 and lived there for decades. It was passed on to other members of Hollywood’s elite before Jolie grabbed it off the market following her split from Brad Pitt.

Where Jolie is headed next remains unknown, but she has spoken about her interest in spending much of her time abroad now that her youngest children are 18. She once said she was hoping to spend more time in Cambodia.
