Lioness is coming back with a bang.

It’s been nearly two years since season 2 of the action-packed espionage drama from Taylor Sheridan wrapped up. Now, after that excruciatingly long wait, new episodes are finally on the horizon. On Thursday, the streamer dropped the first teaser trailer for Lioness Season 3, which premieres August 2 on Paramount+.

‘Lioness’ Season 3 trailer teases more action for Joe and her team

In season 3, the Lioness team is “deployed on its most personal assignment yet.”

“Hidden networks, foreign operatives, and personal betrayals collide,” reads the description of the new season. “Joe (Zoe Saldaña) walks the line between duty and home as unseen forces circle her world. Patterns appear where they shouldn’t, names vanish, and paths rearrange. Guided by Kaitlyn (Nicole Kidman) and Westfield (Michael Kelly), Joe confronts enemies operating in the shadows, leaving her to reckon with a war that now reaches into every part of her life.”

“I’m scared for you,” Joe’s husband Neal (David Annable) tells her in the opening moments of the teaser. “I’m scared the way it became this world.”

“The world didn’t become this way,” she replies. “It’s always been this way.”

At the end of season 2, Joe and her team seemed to be on the verge of not making it back home after a brutal firefight during an operation in Iran. Fortunately, backup swooped in at the last moment and saved the day, allowing Joe to reunite with her family. But will her marriage survive more high-stakes missions? Joe will struggle to find a balance in season 3, as the trailer shows her once again doing whatever it takes to fulfill her obligations to keep America safe from ever-present threats.

The Lioness trailer also features Joe and her team running from a massive explosion, as well as Joe interrogating a suspect.

“We know what you do,” the woman says to Joe. Moments later, Joe punches the other woman in the face.

“You must not know us,” she says.

“God have mercy on us,” says Secretary of State Edward Mullins (Morgan Freeman).

The trailer doesn’t reveal exactly what enemy the Lioness team is battling this season. But whoever it is, the conflict is intense and isn’t likely to be resolved quickly.

“This isn’t the end of the fight,” Kaitlyn says at the end of the clip. “This is the start of one.”
