Selena Gomez Appears to Shade Celebrities at the Knicks Game
Selena Gomez is not one of the celebrities who are cheering for the Knicks to win the NBA Finals. Gomez, who grew up in Texas, admitted that the Knicks’ recent win against the San Antonio Spurs stung a bit. In a now-deleted Instagram post, Gomez also seemed to shade the celebrity bandwagon fans of the Knicks.
Selena Gomez posted about the Knicks game
On June 10, the Knicks beat the Spurs by one point in Game Four of the NBA Finals. Gomez posted about the game on her Instagram Stories.
“Happy for NY but my heart breaks just a little lol,” she wrote over a picture of herself in a Spurs jersey. “It’s ok. I’m happy for the teams! Thank you for giving us some great games @nba.”
Gomez also pointed out some of the people watching the Knicks game. She views them as bandwagon fans.
“Mad respect for the game!!” she wrote. “Congrats to the peeps that represent! What a come back. So funny how some are all the sudden fans though lol.”
While she didn’t call anyone out directly, there were a number of celebrities in the crowd who she could have been referencing.
What celebrities attended the game?
Knicks games at Madison Square Garden are always star-studded, and Game Four was no different. Timothée Chalamet, who has attended many games this season, cheered for the team alongside his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner. Ben Stiller, a longtime Knicks fan, arrived long before the game started. Another longtime Knicks fan, Spike Lee, was also in the crowd.
Other longtime Knicks fans in attendance were Mariska Hargitay, Chris Rock, Fat Joe, Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler, and Tracy Morgan.
Taylor Swift also sat courtside with Este and Alana Haim, who were born and raised in Los Angeles. They all wore custom Knicks shirts.
The Wu-Tang Clan also performed during the game’s halftime.
Selena Gomez said the Knicks win was slightly disappointing for her
As Gomez noted, the Knicks win was a bit of a disappointment for her because she grew up in Texas. She lived in Grand Prairie, Texas, until she was 13.
“I visit this place every chance I get,” Gomez wrote in the caption of an Instagram post outside of her childhood home. “In many ways it very well could have been better than my life today, but I’m grateful for a voice that can enable change today. Even when I don’t know how to do it well or actually want it. I love you Grand Prairie. Thank you.”
She ultimately moved to Los Angeles for her career.
