“I’m incredibly honored to be part of this exciting project,” Gizelle said in a statement. “Being able to help bring a project I’m so passionate about to life has been incredibly rewarding. I’m so proud of what we’ve created and can’t wait for audiences everywhere to see it!”

Church Wives takes place inside a prominent megachurch. When a coveted leadership role opens up, two ambitious women go to war for status and power. What starts as polite competition quickly escalates, turning committee meetings, fundraisers, and Bible study sessions into battlegrounds. Devotion takes a backseat to ego, and the congregation is caught in the fallout.

In addition to Gizelle, the cast includes Ashley Clarice, Amberlin Morse, Kiana Nicole Washington, Cortez Adams, Alicia Marie, Lanre Idewu, Suki Sullivan, Paul Jerome, Cynthia Pope, Amanda Michelle Smith, Rhonda Bankston, Victoria Udeh, and Shannon Echols.

“SO EXCITED and HONORED to EXECUTIVE PRODUCE this amazing project. It’s beyond good! @bet @atwistofficial Drops NOVEMBER 4th!” Gizelle captioned an Instagram post promoting the new show.

Church Wives premieres Wednesday, November 4 at 10 p.m. ET/CT on BET, as part of the network’s Where Drama LivesWednesday lineup, with new half-house episodes airing weekly. At a later date, episodes will later move to aTwist’s vertical platform, where they will be formatted as a microseries.

‘RHOP’ star previously exposed ‘salacious’ side of church life in ‘My Word’

This isn’t the first time that Gizelle has explored the darker side of church life. In 2019, she published her debut novel, My Word, which focuses on a woman who gives up her own professional dreams to help her husband build his megachurch. It’s inspired by Gizelle’s own life. From 2002 to 2009, Gizelle was married to Jamal Bryant, who founded the Empowerment Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church in Baltimore. Currently, he’s the pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Georgia. He and Gizelle share three children.

“It’s salacious. It’s a page-turner. You get to see the inside of the ‘First Lady’ world,” Gizelle told Bossip of her first book. “There are cliques in that world, they support each other and they throw each other under the bus. And you get to see a woman whose life was derailed a bit, and how she picked herself up and got through it.”
