Tyler Perry to the rescue. 

After the actor-director-writer got wind of a serious situation facing a Chicago-area homeowner, he jumped in to assist. 

Brenda Daurham from Markham, Illinois, was forced out of her house after a pipe burst in her kitchen in February, flooding her residence. But when she turned to her insurer, Allstate, for help, the company denied the claim. As a result, the restoration company that did work on the home was never paid. It placed a mechanic’s lien on Daurham’s house, seeking nearly $18,000, along with potential interest, attorney’s fees and other costs. 

Fox 32 in Chicago reported on Daurham’s plight, sharing an interview with the distraught and emotional homeowner, who feared she might lose the place where she has lived to 40 years. Perry saw the story after multiple people tagged him on social media. 

“Hey Allstate! Step to the front real quick. This woman is 81 years old. You call this being in good hands?” he wrote on Instagram, referencing the company’s familiar advertising slogan. 

“Don’t worry Ms. Daurham help is on the way,” he added.

According to Fox 32, the Beauty in Black creator is committed to paying the lien on Daurham’s home and providing other assistance. Meanwhile, Allstate has said it is looking into the case.  

While commenters praised Perry’s generosity, some people weren’t surprised by Daurham’s experiences with Allstate. Multiple people shared their own stories of negative interactions with various insurance companies. 

“They tried this sh*t with my grandma as well until we got a lawyer,” one person wrote. “I LITERALLY HATE @allstate.”
