Spider-Man: No Way Home brought Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire together for the first time on the big screen as they reprised their respective roles as Peter Parker. And Garfield has not stopped gushing about working with his Spider-Man hero ever since the movie premiered. The actor even told a story about how far his admiration went when he was younger.

Andrew Garfield recalls his admiration of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man

During a taping of The Graham Norton Show, Andrew Garfield opened up about being in Spider-Man: No Way Home and how long he’s been a fan of Tobey Maguire.

“I’m far too old to be playing Spider-Man now, but they asked me back, and it’s the sweetest thing ever,” Garfield shared. “Because I had put that to bed. I was like, ‘No, I’m good. I’m done. That’s lovely.’ And Tom Holland is just the best, so I just, kind of, became a fan again. And then they asked me to do [Spider-Man: No Way Home], and Tobey was doing it. I was like, ‘I gotta do it if Tobey’s doing it.'”

The actor added, “[Tobey’s] my Spider-Man. I would practice his lines in the mirror when I was in drama school. I was very high at the time. My friend would crack up and look at me, ‘Yeah, you’ll never play Spider-Man, Andy.’ And then here we are.”

If only Andrew Garfield knew while he was getting high in drama school that he would one day star alongside Tobey Maguire in a Spider-Man movie about the multiverse.

The two actors snuck into a screening of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

Andrew Garfield also discussed on The Graham Norton Show how he and Tobey Maguire saw Spider-Man: No Way Home in theaters.

“Me and Tobey, we became friends, and we snuck into a theater in Los Angeles on opening weekend,” the actor revealed. “And we were just two middle-aged white guys in baseball hats and masks. It was a special thing, in the middle of the pandemic, as well.”

Garfield previously talked about that night with Entertainment Tonight. He said, “I still can’t believe it happened. I snuck into a theater on opening night and just watched with my baseball cap on and my mask. In fact, I was also with Tobey. Me and Tobey snuck into a theater together, and no one knew we were there. It was just a really beautiful thing to share together.”

Garfield added, “And to find a brotherhood with Tobey as well, and with Tom, and the fact that we do share a very unique experience.”

Andrew Garfield reveals whether or not he would ever play Spider-Man again

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Andrew Garfield revealed if he would be open to starring in a third The Amazing Spider-Man movie.

“Never say never,” Garfield said. “It’s a character that’s always going to be so meaningful to me, and so beautiful to me, and again, it comes back to service. I think if there’s a way, because that’s what that character is all about, he’s all about serving the greater good and serving his fellow people, serving humanity and all life.”

Garfield continued, “So, if there’s a way for me to continue to add to the legacy of that character in a way that feels like it’s of service to an audience, of service to the themes that Stan Lee injected that character with, I’m open, of course. I’m very, very open, but it would have to be very, very special. It would have to be very, very meaningful and fun, and joyful, like doing No Way Home was.”

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now playing in theaters.
