Power Book II: Ghost may have just ended its explosive second season, but fans are already anticipating what’s next. The drama series centers on Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.) following the murder of his father, James “Ghost” St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick). As fans of the original Power know, Tariq’s hatred of his father drove his desire to kill him.

However, the college student has now found himself following in Ghost’s footsteps.

‘Power Book II: Ghost’ has begun filming Season 3

Amid several delays due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) surge in New York City, filming for the third season of Ghost was delayed. However, now that the numbers have dropped in New York, production on the new season has started. Though Starz has not even begun discussing a release date or given us any clues about what we might see next, we do know that Tariq is going to be feeling more alone than ever.

Moreover, amid Zeke’s (Daniel Bellomy) death, Monet Tejada (Mary J. Blige) will never be the same. Tariq is also going to be facing more obstacles this season. “As we saw in the end, they got [Detective] Blanca and she pulled up some pictures of Tariq, and she’s familiar with him so we already know what’s going to happen,” Rainey told PopSugar. “He ended season one with some trouble, he ended season two with some trouble, so he’s going to start season three in some trouble for sure . . . Tariq ties up these loose ends and as soon as those get tied up, another end gets loose.”

Tariq face the same dilemma his father faced in season 3

When we first met Ghost in the original Power, his sole focus was leaving the drug game behind. However, he soon discovered that he couldn’t outrun his past. Now, Tariq is facing the same dilemma. Though he attempted to blackmail Mecca (Daniel Sunjata) for $2 million, his plan to leave the drug game was thwarted when Monet killed the drug lord before he could get the money.

With his mother Tasha (Naturi Naughton) and sister Yasmine (Paris Morgan) in witness protection, Tariq is still very much within the clutches of the Tejada family.

“Right now, he’s kind of fighting that choice to make,” Rainey told PopSugar. “Tariq doesn’t really know what he wants to do, as you saw in the finale . . . All the troubles he’s got going on and all the money he’s going to have to spend, who knows what he’s going to do. He might have to step one foot back into the game. It’s hard for Tariq right now. He’s in a very confusing predicament.”

Tariq represents Ghost in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’

There is still so much discussion of the possibility of Ghost still being alive in the Power Universe. However, Power Universe creator Courtney Kemp has explained that the drug kingpin died when Tariq shot him at Truth nightclub. Instead, she says that Tariq represents his father’s presence on earth which is why the drug dealer has found himself inadvertently following in his father’s footsteps.

In a recent Instagram Live, Kemp explained, “A lot of you guys are constantly talking about Ghost coming back,” she said. “Without going into super detail, what I will definitely say is that part of the reason why I started writing this show was about my father’s death. The thing about that and what I’m really trying to demonstrate is that Tariq is Ghost on earth. Tariq is Ghost alive. He is learning things and changing before our very eyes. Tariq is growing into a man.”

We saw how things ended for Ghost, we hope Tariq doesn’t meet that same fate.
