Nick Tarabay will play Eclipso in ‘Stargirl’ season 2

Fans will find a familiar face in the second season of Stargirl. Nick Tarabay is taking on the role of the magical villain, but he was previously seen on another CW DC superhero show, Arrow. The actor portrayed Digger Harkness, aka Captain Boomerang on three episodes of the series in 2014 and 2017.

Outside of the Arrowverse, Tarabay has appeared in several notable TV projects, including Sex and the City and The Sopranos. He also had recurring roles on Crash, Spartacus, and Person of Interest. More recently, Tarabay starred in the sci-fi drama, The Expanse

Tarabay shared a picture of himself as Eclipso on Twitter. And referring to his role as Ashur in Spartacus, he hinted this role would be even more maniacal. “Ladies and gentlemen, if you thought ASHUR was bad then welcome to your worst nightmare!!” he captioned the photo.  “ECLIPSO never looked so good HAHAHA!!”

Who is Eclipso in the DC Comics?

Eclipso is a supervillain who was first introduced in DC Comics’ 1963 House of Secrets series. He was rebooted into a more powerful being in the 1992 miniseries, Eclipso: The Darkness Within, taking on and possessing superheroes like Batman, Superman, and Captain Marvel.

In the comic books, Eclipso’s backstory is that he was created by God and subsequently wields immense powers and abilities. He is an immortal being who can manipulate and control the weather to create disastrous storms and floods. He can also possess the body of others, emit deadly rays from his eyes, and fly.

How will Eclipso fit into ‘Stargirl’ season 2?

In the season 1 finale of Stargirl, after Cindy (Meg DeLacy) kills her father, Dr. Ito, aka Dragon King (Nelson Lee), she rummages through The Magician’s storage room. She comes across a diamond-shaped gem that is illuminated by a mysterious swirling gas inside. “I see you in there, Eclipso,” Cindy announces.

The gem Cindy wields is most likely Eclipso’s Heart of Darkness gem. In the comics, anyone who touched the cursed object can be taken over by Eclipso. According to Stargirl writer and showrunner Geoff Johns, Eclipso is a dark character who will prove to be a formidable foe.

“Eclipso is one of my very favorite villains in the books, and he’s somebody who in the comics actually killed Beth Chapel and Yolanda Montez — and they never came back, until recently,” Johns told TV Line. “Eclipso is a really interesting character because he embodies darkness and corruption — And there are more characters and other surprises we haven’t even hinted at yet for Season 2.”

While the exact premiere date has yet to be announced, the CW has revealed that Stargirl season 2 will premiere sometime this summer.
