2 More ‘Mormon Wives’ Stars Hint They Could Be Done With the Show After Mikayla Matthews Quits
After this season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives aired, Mikayla Matthews announced that she is leaving the show. Matthews clashed with Taylor Frankie Paul and appeared to convey that her behavior was the reason for her exit. Now, two more of the show’s stars have hinted they could leave too.
Mikayla Matthews announced her exit from ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’
The latest season of SLOMW premiered on Sept. 10. Several days later, Matthews announced that she is quitting the show.
“I made my decision over a week ago, after hearing some news, that I will not be continuing the show at this moment,” she wrote in an Instagram post.
She said she believes the show rewards unethical behavior. While she didn’t specify whose behavior, she likely refers to Paul. She is in an ongoing custody battle and faced severe backlash after a video of her throwing a chair at her ex and nearly hitting her child surfaced.
“I’ve said from the beginning of this that I’m not comfortable being a part of something that continues to platform behavior I don’t agree especially given my own experience growing up in a home with multiple forms of abuse,” she wrote. “There’s no amount of money worth going against my morals or changing the stance I’ve had since I first saw and heard the things that made me feel this strongly. And for me personally, continuing to directly profit from this behavior feels wrong and unethical. It feels like a disservice to the children, everyone’s healing and the millions of people watching.”
She added that while she is grateful for her time on the show, it doesn’t feel right to participate in it anymore.
“Supporting an ADULT doesn’t mean constantly making excuses for toxic behavior while giving unconditional sympathy and grace with zero accountability or change,” she concluded. “I was in that enabling cycle for years, and I’m not going to be a part of that again!”
Layla Taylor and Mayci Neeley might follow Mikayla Matthews off of ‘Mormon Wives’
Two of Matthews’ good friends, Layla Taylor and Mayci Neeley, may be following her out the door. In a response to a TikTok comment, Neeley said she hasn’t made a decision on appearing past season 6.
“I am finishing this current season we are filming,” she wrote, adding, “and then not sure after that!”
Taylor also cast doubt on her future with the show.
“I just love [Mikayla] so much,” she wrote on Instagram. “It’s such an impossible situation for everyone involved but I’m finishing out season 6 and then tbd.
Whitney Leavitt is also leaving the show
Before this season of the show aired, Whitney Leavitt also announced her exit. While performing in Chicago, Leavitt told the audience that she was leaving. She feels that it was time to move forward with her life.
“It’s such a huge chapter in my life, but I felt like everybody knew that it was time for that chapter to end,” she told People. “Regrets? Plenty. But I wouldn’t change a thing.”
